Connolly interfering with match official

Replying To realman2:  "An open and shut case. Minor physical interference (laying a hand on, pushing, pulling or jostling') was made and that is enough for 12 weeks. Some Dublin posters are living in cloud cuckoo land. He's a big loss to the entertainment of the championship and he's blown his chance for a POTY and he's disrupted Dublin's prep but he'll be back for the big days."
12 weeks and its fair.

Great player but you cannot do what he did.

Replying To Loughduff Lad:  "12 week ban confirmed just now. Not surprising, you just can't lay a hand on an official. Should do the right thing and accept and get on with things. Appealing and dragging this out will do no one any favours"
Hahaha we don't have the big bucks for nothing , we will be appealing and appealing and appealing til our man gets justice. 3 months for that embarrassing.

Replying To Liamwalkinstown:  "Just for the record, those of you saying he "pushed the linesman" have either
1. Not seen the incident so havent a clue what they are talking about or..
2. Are just making shit up to suit their argument!

There was no "push"

Has no one stopped for a second to think, "hey, the linesman he so viciously assaulted, saw no harm in the incident at the time, did not react, did not tell the ref and saw fit to let the game go on as he didnt feel ...pushed...."

I am sure he is happy with ye all taking offence on his behalf tho lads!

That tells you all you need to know!"
No push at all ridiculous talk about exaggerating contact. And look at the context, Keeper kicks ball into touch, Connolly attempts to get it, is manhandled by 3 Carlow players, to the lads horror the linesman is pointing the flag the wrong way. Its no wonder he reacted the way he did.
I will concede it was a "push" of air.

I feel we haven't heard the end of this. Dublin will be fine though they will still win the AI with or without Connolly.

Replying To Whammo86:  "I don't think he should be banned. It really wasn't particularly bad what was done.

I'd have zero sympathy for him if he does get banned. He still should not have done what's he's done.

Some of the problem here is the stupid predetermined ban length attached with their rules. I'd much prefer there to be bans of appropriate severity and they get enforced.

1 game slap on the wrist and move on would be fine."
You can't have an acceptable level of contact with the referee. Hence 12 weeks is appropriate. Anyone who has played knows that you basically don't touch the referee...ever...it's not that hard to keep to.

Them are the rules and the ref had it in his match report, he did make minimal contact

Proposed 12 weeks

Hopefully see you in August Diarmuid for a possible semifinal - that's if there's a place for you! Plenty of excellent footballers will gladly take your spot and do all they can to hold onto it.

Gavin now needs to plan without DC for what could be 3 games, maybe more if Dublin go through qualifiers. Plenty of options open to him

Someone else comes in and on we go.. hopefully it's not the last we've seen of him but it might be and unfortunately he sort of has no one else to blame.

A chance now for Dublin GAA to show their true colours.

Are the for or against respect for our officials?

We'll see.

It's the attitude of Dublin fans like you that's embarrassing. The guy put his hands on an official, you just can't do that ever and that protection needs to be upheld. Even Pillar Caffrey came out early and said what he did was wrong. Maybe don't embarrass yourselves this time and don't go with the grovelling appeals.

The ban has been handed down.

Now the real fun begins. Making it stick.

Far worse things happen on a pitch than what Connolly did and they all go unpunished. However the rule seems fairly clear cut to me so I don't think there can be any complaints if the ban does indeed stick.

If only Laois football had such a good comeback! instead of rolling over and having your belly tickled by the mighty Kildare.

I'm not surprised at the attempts to play down Connolly's indiscretion by some here but surprised at the weakness of some of the arguments. The man done wrong, simple as, he approached an official in an aggressive manner and made contact with him, a clear breach of the rule in question. Whether you like it or not that's the rule and others have suffered the consequences of the same rule, Connolly can not be an execption and must suffer for his inability to contain his emotions. Neither Dublin nor Connolly are the victim here , there is no unfair targetting, the man clearly broke a rule and there is no argument to his defence in my opinion anyway.

That statement makes absoultly no sense at all, because they propose 12 weeks somehow you feel that makes me wrong????? You do realise what your actually saying there don't you?
I said he clearly waved for a sideline ball incorrectly before Connolly went near him how does Connolly getting a suspension change that course of events?????

Hmmm
legally it's the gaa here who are showing no respect for the rules, as the cccc are not allowed judicate on an incident that the officials have adjudicated on already.
they are breaking their own rules here. The officials seen the incident took no action therefore if this goes to the DRA it will be overturned on the basis
