I don't know about you but I'd much rather watch a player like McCaffery, McHugh or Keegan take the ball on the run and pierce through the middle of a defence and bury it to the net after a well worked move. What is enjoyable about watching someone launch a ball down the field to the opposition who then launches it back down to the boy who kicked it in the first place?"
But if you love Gaelic football and are over the age of 6 that's what you were brought up on and why you love the game , not cause of 2011 style football that's nearly in every game now.

Their has always been attacking half backs just cause teams kicked more in the 90's and 00's doesn't mean there wasnt a great attacking half back like Paul Curran Graham Geraghty seamus Phillip Jordan Tomas O Se Davy Harte Moynihan.

Yes there was terrible games back in the day and we'd all say "what a terrible game the was" but we'd never say it was terrible cause of the style of play. Most games are terrible nowadays cause of the same negative 15 men behind the ball handpass to death bore fest. And please don't say it's fascinating maybe 6/5 years ago when Donegal started it it was but it's become so boring now.

Funny you mention Philip Jordan, was he not part of the 'Puke football' team? Remember when everyone was saying that? Remember in the 90s when Donegal were lambasted for their short passing game? Funny thing is the game has been 'dying' for years yet here you are still posting about it 20 years later.

Just to point out there were attacking half backs but they had the run of the pitch. You didn't have the runs of the shoulder you have today, breaking a tackle as they go at full pelt.

100% right.

I would always have defended football during the 00's but I think that most people would agree that it has taken a serious step back over the past few years.

We are lucky to get 2-3 decent game's throughout the entire championship now.

You beat the blanket defense by been able to kick points from the 45 Every team tries to get the ball to the 21 before trying to score. Don,t know how many balls fall int the goalies hands from feeble attempts. Its been said before but put big men in the square then then bomb away from the 45. I would like to see the kickouts having to go beyond the 21

Btw uibh fhaili there's a small crowd there today. People must be sick of watching two Ulster sides and their defensive tactics.
