If Carlow were to win at the weekend

If Carlow were to win it would precipitate an immediate and radical overhaul of championship structures, to ensure teams beaten in the early rounds had a route to meaningful summer football.

No point in talking about it because it is not going to happen.

This thread will end up just taking the p out of carlow

Thier all-ireland was against wexford.

London beating sligo in Connacht in 2013 was the biggest shock in recent times.

Waterford beating Cork would have eclipsed this in my opinion.

Leicester were 2,000 / 1 . Carlow 25/1 .
It actually goes to show the achievement Leicester managed.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this but, if my memory serves me correctly, over the course of the last 15 years we've played Dublin four times in senior football and the score stands at two wins each (three were O'Byrne Cup games and one was a tournament game).

On this evidence, it seems to me that Saturday must be a 50/50 game!!

If it was Dublin of the 00s game on. Longford came within 2 pts of them in Pearse Park in 2006. Unfortunately for Carlow, Laois and the rest of Leinster Dublin of the 2010s are an enteirely different animal.

Imagine since Dublin lost to Westmeath in Leinster in 2004 they have only lost once to Meath in 2010. The day Meath put 5 goals past Pat Gilroy's new more defensive setup. One loss in 13 years.

If Dublin lose i think we'll have to head outside gaa to another sport for a comparable shock in a 2 horse race. Maybe some soccer cup tie with a first division and non league side? Lichenstein drawing with the Republic in soccer in 1995 was a bit of a shock at the time. Then again in soccer it's easier park 10 men behind the ball and get a draw or a win with a counter attack.

Quite simply it is never going to happen. Dublin will win by 15 points plus.

I juut ho-pe Carlow go out and have a crack at Dublin, they will likely lose by about 15-20 points but they may as well go out and lose giving it all rather than just lay down and leave Dublin walk all over them.

Ya very true. It would be like Carlow beating Dublin then going on to win the All-Ireland. Could you imagine that haha.

Carlow gone out to 33/1 now to win this game,, but a bargain at 1000/1 to win the All Ireland.

Carlow beating Dublin would be a much bigger shock than Clare beating Kerry in 1992 .

Kerry in 92 were not a patch on this Dublin team .

Also Waterford in 1993 , in hurling terms were not winning All- Irelands , not even Munsters so that's not even close .

Someone also said Donegal in 1992 - we were like 4/1. A shock yes but not a 25/1 shock .

I can't speak for the 1950s but it would 100% be the biggest shock in my life time , by a distance .

I'd actually love to see Carlow win it (not that this could happen anytime soon) It would make my year. The critics would be pulling their hair out. Even a once off win against Dublin would be an All-Ireland to the county. Stranger things happen...but rarely.

If Carlow were to win tonight they would achieve what no other county in the country would achieve, - - - that is of course until the all Ireland semi final / final.??

Another big shock would have been in 2003 when we beat Armagh in the first round of Ulster. They had just won the All Ireland and we were probably ranked among the worst teams in the country at the time.

Carlow winning tonight would far eclipse that and any other shock in recent times. It'd have to be the biggest shock of my lifetime watching anyway.

So far so good for Carlow, they are defending brilliantly. Sean Murphy is having a storming game. Dublin haven't shown up so far apart Ciaran Kilkenny who has been excellent.

As long as Carlow don't concede a goal they might hang in there.

How would Carlow win when the ref is giving handy frees to the Dubs. Very average from the All Ireland champions fair play to Carlow
