Supppsedly the New York county board did do their own investigation and found there was no evidence that the lad played for a club out there. MantisTobbogan (Galway) - Posts: 4 - 21/10/2017 13:52:46 2056793 Link 0 |
Honestly, I'm not sure if there has been an incident like this where a potentially unsanctioned player played GAA in the US, apart from maybe Tony Keady (RIP) but I would presume rules and regulations may have moved on somewhat since that incident. I would agree with your viewpoint that the player most likely was legal to play for Williamstown ( if the information I have heard is correct) and as such the punishment should be against the US team or the player himself. Would be interested to hear if any other teams have encountered anything like this. It definitely sets a low standard for kicking teams out of competitions if what I have heard is in any way true. I have no dog in this fight myself but I am concerned that if this ruling holds up then the burden of proof of wrongdoing lies a long way south of names on official GAA paperwork between clubs and GAA HQ and somewhere closer to scanning social media to find something to throw a county final into chaos. Not a good situation.

Reports are that the club is basing its proof on still photos of the player in a game in Gaelic Park. Iffy proposition as any person's head can be super imposed on any other persons body. Video evidence would be more concrete proof.

was a neutral attending Tuam stadium today, and have to say it was a pleasure to watch Shane Walsh play. He contributed 2-8 in total and you could feel the buzz of excitement whenever he got the ball. juniorblegend (Kerry) - Posts: 70 - 22/10/2017 00:02:17 2056915 Link 0 |
power balanced forward line and bench did it for CG....if clonbern had one more forward they would have won. Ref didnt give much protection to walsh who had two and at times three marking him...felt he let a lot go. a lot of confusion toward end of normal time when umpires flagged a point for clonbern only for ref to run in have a discussion and over rule their decdision!! controversy again but all in all a great game squares_edge (Galway) - Posts: 680 - 22/10/2017 21:30:40 2057070 Link 0 |
Also hearing from a few people over this Aran/Williamstown situation that Aran would not be able to play the final even if they win the objection? Can anybody shed light on this? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, one would find it hard to see why they would object if it wasn't to get a place back in the championship? I understand that rules are rules and their right to object is the same as everybody else's but just curious if they can actually play the final and if not why? diggerhitachi (Galway) - Posts: 19 - 22/10/2017 22:00:26 2057080 Link 0 |

Protection to Walsh?! The ref isn't a bouncer in Coppers. He let the game be played which is proper order. The umpires signalled for a wide not a point so no controversy. Claregalway just pushed that bit harder in the end

Congratulations to Claregalway. The 4/6 offered by Bookmakers about them to win it outright before the quarter finals looks like the bet of the century now. NathinButSteel (Galway) - Posts: 115 - 23/10/2017 09:00:15 2057123 Link 0 |
Interesting that you feel "clout" or "pedigree" dictate which teams rules should be applied to. Is this an insight into how the county board operates?

Are you seriously implying that Aran have photoshopped this individuals head onto a nother body in a bid to deceive the county board ? You wouldnt be from Williamstown by any chance ? MapleSyrup (Galway) - Posts: 165 - 23/10/2017 12:14:38 2057199 Link 0 |

were you at the game? one umpire signalled a score and other signalled nothing....ref went in and clonbern players seemed irate... that is what happened.. i didnt have the best view of that particular shot but how and ever it was ultimately not awarded. as for walsh he was being constantly held off the ball and though that is to be expected at this level it is up to the ref to intervene. CG won because of their subs and greater spread of scorers in the forwards as well as thier physical power. both teams pushed as hard as they could.

Wasn't at the game myself but heard from Galway Bay FM that Walsh was fantastic, were his scores as difficult as the commentators made them out be? Scantermediate (Galway) - Posts: 98 - 23/10/2017 16:34:19 2057289 Link 0 |
