No, we just play both codes in Munster.

I fail to see how that relates to yer man clearly being a hurling snob.

Look it's obvious the disdain so many of you have for the OPs suggestion and how convenient the status quo is for you. Sends quite a strong message to the people in Cavan or Monaghan or elsewhere who are working hard to improve the game.

Some posters obviously would like to see hurling promoted beyond their own little bubble though.

Owenbeg fo0r USHC final - poor call , should have been Newry"
Athletics Ground Armagh is the best ground in Ulster for an inter-county hurling final and I would include the old Casement in my assessment (not a good ground for atmosphere, too big and wide open). Definitely not Newry it has always been a mud bath when Antrim has played there, the sun never shines on one side of the pitch hence the grass does not grow, I would like to see Antrim give Armagh home advantage rather than having supporters travelling 50-60 mile to Owenbeg. I know North Antrim supporter would have to travel that distance but we are used to travelling to Thurles every year for the schools finals and for the U21 AI Championship semi final, so Armagh would be easy for us.

Just out of interest - if this loopy idea ever did happen I wonder what the attendances would be? You'll have 15k or so at both games Sunday. Would you get even 3k if they were played in Ulster? If in Cavan I'd say you might have 300 locals and the rest made up of diehards from either county.

As as direct comparison I'm sure Cavan and Monaghan footballers and supporters would only love to be asked to play each other in Limerick!

Bref- there are no hurling catch nets in either of Monaghan or Cavan county grounds. It would not be the place to take hurling as 95% of locals are not interested in hurling therefore people from Munster and Leinster would be travelling to an area of the country that would not benefit from the match being played there. There was an uproar from football people like you last year when KK hosted a Leinster football match, this would be the same, no hurling fan wants to go to a place that shows a total disregard for hurling.

well that is hardly my problem, where are your clubs pushing the hurling agenda?who makes up your county board anyway, not members of clubs i suppose........

Ah well if there are no catch nets in Breffni or Clones then that's the end of hurling promotion in Cavan or Monaghan. Game over.

What would be the point of Cavan playing Monaghan in Limerick? How can you so spectacularly miss the point of the suggestion?

Tipp played Down in Clones back in 1997 in an AI Quarter Final. There was no one allowed sit behind the goals!!!

I agree arguments on both sides but look especially in Div 1A or 1B you are asking teams as well as supporters to travel up to the likes of Clones , Newry , Cavan etc.

Like the idea but you would nearly want at least the 6 teams in Div 1A or 1B to come to agreement they play one match in each round at a neutral venue in the group stage.

Last week in clones a woman behind the goal was struck in the head by a football and suffered concussion it is very unusual a county ground would not have nets behind the goal especially one that hosts the provincial finals.

Look I get it, you're not willing to do anything to benefit the game elsewhere! It's grand, I've moved on.

Great idea indeed.
Then reality kicks in and they go back to their respective counties and there isn't a hurling fixture played for love nor money.

I know this is an example, but Austin Gleeson's name wouldn't be known to too many kids in Monaghan or Cavan so him and Waterford turning up won't make a button of difference if the seed isn't already sown and nurtured by the respective county boards and I'm not sure that is the case.

Start at the bottom and promote from there Breffni.

Everything else is just for show.

Well Limerick are a division 4 team with little or no interest in football for the majority of GAA people in the county. The footballers get around 500 max at homes matches. Usually less. So what's the difference between your suggestion of hurling in Cavan and division 1 football in Limerick?

Oh right, it's just that Killarney87 triumphantly claimed you play both codes in Munster. Is this true or are you trying to have it both ways?

Well Tipp were in a league final at the weekend and there was 5,000 at it between 4 teams so that answers that question! Clare were in a division 3 final also year and there was even less at it.

Have to agree with Mike
football is impossible in limerick to even get on live in a pub, they rather show club rugby from New Zealand than show qualifiers a couple years ago in that mcgettigans and I wouldn't mind they have about 10 screens showing same thing.

So you want to have it both ways, boastfully claim you play both sports and also claim nobody is interested.

I never said that. Bar Kerry and a pocket of Cork nobody has any interest in football down here. Where did I say otherwise ?

He's just stating a fact Breffni. Limerick love sports. Unfortunately Gaelic just never caught on and theres very little room for it to develop. If your a powerhouse you play rugby..if you've got some skills you play football. If youve got some of everything you play hurling. If you can't get a game you play gaelic
