Dublin V Kerry NFL Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What a good game today. Thats the 2nd week in a row we got a championship style match in the league live on tv.

Congrats Kerry. I think there are a few people out there who won money on them to win the league. They were 14/1 to win it before the last day of the league. Winning at home to tyrone and hoping mayo would win at home to donegal was not that big an ask in fairness considering.

I think that it could well be a kerry dublin final again this year as they are on opposite sides of the draw. That would be a match worth watching when and if it comes around.

The black cards were all technically correct, but on another day Connolly would have remained on the pitch and got a yellow instead of a black. I think that there are inconsistencies in the enforcement of the game and this is something that we have got to be honest about. Is the referee there to balance the game (ie keep a team that is behind in the game) or to enforce the rules to the letter of the law? It cant be both unfortunately. I don't think that this was in issue today. There were incorrect calls made in the 2nd half that we all saw.

It was very noticeable to see Sheehan kick the winning score (or as good as). Also noticeable was the marker kerry have set down days after the Gooch retired. Noticeable still was how much winning meant to them, while at the same time, they were fairly cool and even tempered about what they had won (the league). Finally, it was the first time I heard a team's sponsor being thanked first off the podium by the winning captain, also a good yardstick to measure where we as a GAA community are at.

Well done Kerry and congrats on a fine win. Hopefully we will have more sober discussions re Dublin now. Dublin looked at times very disjointed they are missing Johnny Cooper at the back and also his movement out of the defence. Poor kickout's, poor discipline all cost us big time. The only good thing is that bloody run is over. Some may criticise Ref but I think he was brave to take on these too powerful counties. I smiled just after HT as he repeatedly penalised poor reactions to poor play with fouls which in truth hurt Dublin much more. But it was a great game, and well done to Kerry doesn't tell us a whole lot other than if Dublin don't win AI who ever does will have to beat them to do it.

I agree with you, and now is the time to learn those lessons, not in Aug/Sept!

In fairness Jimmy if ya seen the replaysame they had good reason to hold there face.....two closed fist tackles by mcmahon were as plain as day.....a few others were accidental tho. They didn't jump up calling for cards tho like some player did

Dublin posters

Enough with the excuses and nit-picking

We deserved little from that game, it was a poor performance, no excuses.

Better team won

Are you referring to Paul Geaney by any chance? Have a look at the replay. Sly punch to the face from Philly McMahon and that was the second of two punches to the face. He should have had two red cards and two yellows. Great block to prevent a goal though. No idea why people are shouting for a foot block when no definition of it exists.

It was nothing but laziness and stupidity He didn't want to run with the Kerry player. Funny how some great players have this little streak of madness He was missed at the business end of the game You can hope he'll learn but remember that old saying about Old dogs and new tricks I'm afraid DC is in that category What a Fantastic game of football for a netural A game like this was really enjoyable when you don't care who wins

Fair play to Kerry, if anyone were to beat the Dubs it had to be them. Great game of football and Dublin, even though second best on the day, could have sneaked a draw. Can't see any team getting in the way of them meeting in the final in September. Thought the ref was very fair although I thought McCarthy and Philly were lucky to finish the match. I'm expecting a raft of ex Dublin players to come out and state they need to be carded early to clean up the game! Consistency and all that.

Replying To royce:  "This was the changing of the guard, Dublin are an old team with several players 30 plus, cluxton, Mcmahon, Daly, O Sullivan, MDMA, Bastick, Flynn, Connolly, McMeanamon, O Gara, Brogan, and Andrews 29. Add in the sub keeper at 31(who has been a fantastic servant to the dubs and R0C who has left the panel, this will be too much to bear for the Dubs.

Roll on the summer, hopefully the dubs can bring on some of the fantastic U 21 team like they have in previous years."
Yep it's definitely the end of the road for this Dublin team. Winning 37 in a row and after 4 consecutive league triumphs and back to back All Irelands it's time for JG and team to step down!!!

Problem is referees never call closed fist tackles This rule is pretty clear A player must tackle with the open hand But very few do and none are ever called

Well done to both teams on a good game of football first and foremost but also for not letting the game be dragged into numerous off the ball stuff like the previous game in tralee.

A lot of credit has to go for the referee for this as he was questioned due to his lack of experience in big games but in fairness he let the game flow as much as he could.

When Mcmahon made a superb block on McCarthy when he had an open goal which would have put us 7 points up, I had a sense of deja vu from our previous encounters with the dubs and I was nearly right but for inches in it at the end with Dean Rocks kick.
The dubs really do put great pressure on the opposition in the final stages of games and again they nearly pulled it off.

At the end of the day we all know this doesn't count for anything unless we get the chance to do it again in September but Mayo, Tyrone and others may have a big say in that. I f Dublin go on to win the All Ireland again in September today will mean nothing but at least its a step in the right direction with many of our players to return and an influx of younger players to come in.

I have seen the replay numerous times. Ball doesn't hit him anywhere near the foot so how can it be a foot block. If a fella leads with his foot and ball hits him in the face are you going to look for penalty?
