Well, I worked in a public house there for a few years, and generally found two reasons for this: 1. Meath fans felt that Mayo begrudged them that All-Ireland victory and blamed external factors such as the ref and the fight; 2. Meath fans aren't inclined to like anyone else anyway. Occasionally, other reasons were trotted out, such as the Land Commission, Enda Kenny, the Rossport Five etc. etc. The bad feeling is alive and kicking to this day, so I was quite happy to see Westport hold on against Colmcilles a few weeks back, if only so that I could be obnoxious in victory for once ;) Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 28/03/2017 20:28:26 1972516 Link 0 |
Before the game? What conduct was that? Bar a few egeits on the field...meanwhile I was walking up the Ennis road with thousands in silence. No don't want your pity. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11238 - 28/03/2017 20:31:52 1972518 Link 0 |

What do historical All-Ireland totals have to do with All-Ireland final performances as recent as 6 months ago?

I've given up on that banter page to be honest they come out with some rubbish! They are great for providing a bit of extra motivation should you be facing Mayo! As for mr Reilly lets be honest I never felt so cheated but the green and red mist wouldnt have helped! To be fair Mayo at the time had a habit of building a lead but not holding on to it which is what happened in the first game as for the second well the whole match decended into farce. I'm surprised he has been chosen for a mayo match as I would have thought the higher authorities would think it might be a dangerous situation. As much as I am bitter about that match I would hope that no one from Mayo would take matter into their own hands and attack the referee I would rather he is let get on with the job and get on with trying to get a result. I'm telling you he was told to make sure only 4 English teams make the group stages I lost all respect for him that day! Look at pat mceanany he made a mistake in the replay with the sendings off and for allowing the fast Meath free which resulted in a goal something he was calling against all day but there would no other man I would want to ref a mayo match!

Lads don't paint all Mayo fans with the same brush. The clowns on Twitter are the same ones from the cringey fan and banter pages all trying to love Mayo more than the other one. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 7907 - 28/03/2017 21:12:15 1972535 Link 0 |

If it has (that's if it ever existed at all) it's probably because all bar Dublin and Kerry have been coming out the wrong side against them in recent years.
