Replying To Donegalman:  "Wow I was too busy looking at mayo and their position at the top. Interesting. Revised script I'm afraid.

Mayo will most likely get a result."
in your opinion is this a game that Donegal will want to win or would they be happier to let it slip past them and prepare for the championship?

Impossible to know from the outside.

I think people are over analyzing when it comes to a team being 'cute', or not revealing their hand too much before the championship, or madder again, avoiding getting a hammering in a league final against the dubs.

The reality is most likely closer to if a team suddenly finds themselves in a winning position or a place that they can get to a final and compete for silverware, they will go for it. Things are hard won now and a successful season is based on what you have won. There is no doubt that Gallagher wanted to win on Sunday against Monaghan and go into the Mayo game to try out new players and rest others as a few of the u21s have been training and playing with the senior team. To be able to do this with the money in the bank of a league final appearance irrespective of the result would have been very ideal indeed. Now it is different.

We are still going to try and win the game or get a result in the game imo. There are a lot of pluses to be taken out of a league final in croke park, most importantly being a run for all the new lads. A hammering is a possibility, but when there is always a chance of a good performance this trumps any chance of a demoralizing defeat. I also think that the fact that Monaghan could be in the final for instance, means that our lads will be trying to get there and not assuming the dubs are the team we are potentially paired with if we make it after sunday.

I also need to point to the fact that mayo really need and want to stay in the first division if they are going to have a good year or a good few years ahead. There is no point in dressing this up. I think they will be coming at us like a championship team. The question is whether we are up for this. I would say most likely yes, but we are not as strong as we were 2 matches ago, or 3 games ago when we had all our lads available and fit.

Going on other years you may be thinking that Gallagher wouldn't be too pushed about the league final.....however from my point of view i'd be imagining that Donegal will want to win this game and get to a league final. A league final in croke park at the early stage of a lot of your players development would look to me like a great opportunity to expose the team to the big occasion. i must say i've been very impressed with Donegal this year and i would love to see that team in Croke Park. they have fantastic pace all over the pitch and a few experienced and settled heads along with that. Dublin in Croke Park would be nothing to be feared and infact i'd be expecting Donegal to really express themselves. regarding Mayo. yeah they definitely wont want to go down, they've sailed close to the wind in division 1 for a few years now so their pedigree will either pull them over the line or like Cork they'll get caught eventually. On Cavan... they've worked really hard the last few weeks and tbf they really looked like a decent team at stages in the last two games. All they can do now is concentrate on Roscommon and hope for the best.

The huge range of final day outcomes, allied to last year's 6 point, 4 team tie (resulting in relegation for Cork and semi finals for Donegal) surely contribute to an excellent league format that's nail biting and fiendishly complex in equal measure.

Stand by though - the "three points for a win" lobby would wreck this.

I think if Cavan finish on 6 points and do still get relegated I think they can look on it as a good league campaign. The margins are so fine in the Division that 6 points can easily keep you up sometimes or relegate you other times.

They'd be well placed going into Championship in anyways.

think we are past the moral victory stage. Div 1 football is where teams can only develop. disappointing start to league looks like our downfall but you never know!!!!

Dublin v Kerry final. I hadn't even considered the possibility of this one. What a finish to the league today.
