John Tobin has put forward the idea of the inter-provincial series being played on the same weekend as the All-Ireland final.

The former Galway star, who managed Roscommon to a Connacht SFC in 2001, is over the Connacht team that will face Leinster in the inter-provincial football semi-final next weekend.

The GAA has struggled to find a suitable date on its calendar for the inter-pros and Tobin believes tying them in with the All-Ireland weekend would appeal to both players and the public alike.

"I just think that there may be an opportunity to look at playing it on the Friday night and Saturday night before the All-Ireland final," he is quoted in the Irish Daily Star.

"There are no club games, there's a break in all of the championships, most of the inter-county players are around Dublin that weekend anyway. Now, it'll exclude the players from the two teams that are in the All-Ireland final but, invariably, some of those would be unavailable to you anyway.

"But the other players would love coming, you could have the semi-finals on the Friday and the final at half-seven on the Saturday evening in Parnell Park. I think it would generate a great buzz."
