A son of former Cork All-Ireland winning footballer Colm O'Neill has been called up to the USA senior soccer squad.

Shane O'Neill is set to feature in the upcoming friendlies against Chile and Panama after catching manager Jurgen Klinsmann's eye with his recent performances in defence and midfield in the MLS for Colorado Rapids.

His brother Darragh, who is also a talented sportsman, made headlines last weekend after his brilliant one-handed catch during an American football colligate game in Florida.

Shane and Darragh's father won the Sam Maguire with Cork in 1989 and '90, while their uncle is none other than Kerry legend Maurice Fitzgerald.
