New Down manager Jim McCorry will be looking to unearth some new Mourne County players over the coming weeks.

McCorry's successful reign as Kilcoo manager came to an end as the Down champions were pipped by Clontibret in the preliminary round of the Ulster Club on Sunday and he is now free to concentrate all his energy on the Down job:

"The job started two weeks ago," the Lurgan man is quoted in The Belfast Telegraph. "A lot of organisation has been going on in appointments, and getting different structures sorted out.

"For guys who weren't on the squad we are starting to look at other players in the county starting this week.

"We can't do anything with the existing squad with the rules until later on in the year but we will be starting with trial games over the next couple of weeks and see what else there is out there in the county."

McCorry insists his Kilcoo tenure did not end on a low: "I don't see it as a low at all. The seven years I had, we have four Championships and three Division Ones in seven years. I said to the players in there that they shouldn't be walking out with their heads down.

"Their heads should be held high because they were tremendous and they battled back in the second half and retained the lead to hold it right to the end. I thought they did themselves proud."
