FL3: Bradley double sinks Cavan

February 05, 2012
Eric Bradley bagged a brace of goals as Wexford made light of the dismissal of Daithi Waters to beat Cavan at Wexford Park.

Wexford 4-9
Cavan 1-13

Stung by the criticism they received in the wake of last weekend's crushing defeat to Laois in the O'Byrne Shield final, Jason Ryan's side came out with all guns blazing and found the net three times in the first half to put themselves in control.

PJ Banville scored the first in the 13th minute before Ciaran Lyng added the second from a penalty after Brian Malone was fouled. Bradley tapped home a third after a handling error by Cavan 'keeper James Reilly, although Wexford's lead at the break was just two points, 3-2 to 0-9, with points from Raymond Galligan, Niall McDermott and Brendan Fitzpatrick keeping the visitors in touch.

The Breffni County continued to battle in the second half, and were unlucky to see Galligan's 51st minute penalty turned over the bar by Anthony Masterson. Five minutes later, Gearoid McKiernan blasted a brilliant goal to leave just a single point in it, 1-11 to 3-6.

But despite having midfielder Waters sent off, Wexford finished much the stronger and the game was effectively settled by Bradley's second goal 10 minutes from the end.
