Ulster Senior Hurling Club Championship 2014 Semi Final
Sunday 12 October 2014
Clones 3:30 PM
Lisbellaw St Patrick's  v    Portaferry St. Patrick's GAC,
Referee: Owen Elliott
Lisbellaw Minnows Take On Portaferry

One of the few things these hurling sides have in common is that both clubs are named after Ireland patron saint.  From there in there is a vast difference in both sides hurling history.  In the recent St Patricks GAC Portaferry club notes of the 6th  October 2014 their PRO waxes glibly on about their recent retaken of the Jeremiah McVeigh Cup and winning the Down Senior Hurling Champions of 2014 by defeating Ballycran 1-12 to 1-11, on  their our own home ground. Who now go on to play Lisbellaw in the Ulster Semi-final on Sunday 12th October in Clones. "Keep working and training hard lads", he modestly pleads. He then concludes "Two years ago when the Senior Hurling team progressed into the Ulster Series, we put up a lot of blue and gold around the town. This will be happening within the next week as well".  No use in being modest: Is there?

For Lisbellaw St Patrick's newcomers to both Ulster Senior Hurling League Division "1" their recent hurling history has been slightly different, with mid Fermanagh side progressing up the ranks from the humble division "4" to the might division "1". No mean task for they Erne county's only viable senior hurling side. However despite losing three of their star players this years. Former Lisbellaw captain Ryan Bogue has immigrated to Australia leaving a major vacuum at Mid-field. The Cavancarragh based club have seen both Declan McGarry normally fulfilling the full forward berth for both club and county migrated to Belfast and is now playing for Bredagh of south Belfast. Meanwhile his brother Cathal and former club full back registered with Sean Tracey's of Lurgan.

In order to compensate for these massive losses the Lisbellaw Senior Hurling Management has promoted the more mature minor players onto the senior hurling team.  In their proud tradition of keeping the ancient game of hurling alive in the Fermanagh county Lisbellaw will travel the short distance to Clones next Sunday the 12 October 2014 to anticipation of giving the 'big boys' of the Ard's peninsula a competitive game, perhaps pull off the surprises of surprises.  Here wishing the Lisbellaw Senior Hurlers a great game, and who knows life is full of surprises.
