Corrigan pays tribute to Owens

Fermanagh's Barry Owens
Former Fermanagh manager Dominic Corrigan has described Barry Owens as a 'true legend'.

The 32-year-old announced his inter-county retirement yesterday after winning All Star awards in 2004 and 2006. Along with Tipperary's Declan Browne, Owens is the only two-time All Star winner not to hold a senior provincial medal.

"People throw out the word 'legend', but this is very apt indeed to Fermanagh, a true legend and a great servant to Fermanagh," Corrigan told the Irish Daily Star.

"I don't want to see him going the way a lot of other Fermanagh players went. They tend to be forgotten about. That chapter is closed, but I want another one opened. Barry has a massive role to play.

"I want him engaged in coaching development squads, county minor teams because Fermanagh have been struggling there for the last number of years," added Corrigan, who first coached the Teemore Shamrocks clubman when he helped St. Michael's, Enniskillen to a MacRory Cup success in 1999.
