Mahon: No hiding place if the hard work isn't put in now

April 11, 2014

Eoin Mahon clears his lines for Fermanagh.
Eoin Mahon vice captain of the Fermanagh hurling team has his sights set on the Lory Meagher, however he states this has been shown right throughout the year so far from the panel and the hard work has to be put in over the next couple of weeks "From the beginning of the year, we all knew that number one aim for the Fermanagh Hurlers would be climbing the steps of the Hogan Stand to lift the Lory Meagher trophy on the 7th of June. As we learned from last year if we don't put the work in we will get found out. I think all players have put in great effort thus far and it must continue"

Mahon knows the difference between the pace of the championship and the league "the Championship is a different proposition to the League. The hits are bigger, the pitches are firmer and the ball moves faster meaning that the pace of the game increases greatly and if you haven't the hard training done, you will be found out. There are no hiding places when on the field in a championship match and everyone must perform to the best of their ability as the slightest mistake will be punished"

The mix of youth and experience is starting to show and places are becoming more competitive "two examples are Barrie Duffy and Martin Beggan who have both come off the bench at different times during games and made pivotal contributions including scoring game winning goals"

The Fermanagh hurlers know that winning a championship won't be easy, however if they are to do so sacrifices will need to be made! "Dual players is a issue I am one myself, its importanrt we can mix the two and the Fermanagh County board have been very accommodating to date"

Fermanagh's first game is away to Warrickshire on May 2nd.
