McLaughlin steps down from Erne Gaels role

Erne Gaels are on the look out for a new manager after Maurice McLaughlin stepped down from the position.

McLaughlin has completed three years in charge of the side and has opted not to stay for a fourth year with the club that he played hurling and football with in the past.

Last year, the Ballyshannon based publican guided the side to their first county SFC final appearance since 1981, where they lost to Derrygonnelly by a point.

Speaking to the Fermanagh Herald he said: "I feel it is the right time to go after three enjoyable years with my native club. This is still a young and promising team and it was great to bring them to a county final for the first time since 1981, when my brother Liam was in goals, and they deserve enormous credit for that huge step forward.

"Erne Gaels are right up with the best in Fermanagh and they are close to taking a county title. I want to thank the players for all their dedication and efforts during my time in Belleek and it is encouraging to see that the club now has five players on Rory Gallagher's Fermanagh squad."
