Pat Gilroy has emerged as the front runner to replace Ger Cunningham as Dublin senior hurling manager.

Boylesports have suspended betting in the market after the 2011 All-Ireland winning football manager was the subject of a big gamble yesterday.

The St Vincent's clubman started the day at 6/1, but due to the overwhelming demand, he was quickly cut into 3/1.

The last price he was backed at with Boylesports was even money.

When contacted by The Irish Daily Star, Dublin chairman Sean Shanley poured cold water on the speculation: "We haven't talked to anyone yet.

"I don't know where that came out of. It's totally out of the blue.

"We'd like to have the new man in position for the resumption of the Dublin hurling championship in the third or fourth week of September."
