Dublin are set to appeal a proposed one-match ban for Philly McMahon arising from an incident with Kerry captain Kieran Donaghy towards the end of the All-Ireland final.

The Ballymun Kickhams defender, who has been shortlisted for the Footballer of the Year award, is facing the prospect of missing Dublin's 2016 Allianz League opener - which is ironically against Kerry - for the alleged eye gouging offence.

According to the Irish Times, the CCCC has decided to propose the one-match suspension under a rule which forbids behaviour "which is dangerous to an opponent", despite McMahon having pleaded his innocence.

Dublin are no strangers to the GAA's appeals process, having gone all the way to the Disputes Resolution Authority to have Diarmuid Connolly cleared to play in this year's All-Ireland semi-final replay against Mayo.
