Dublin-Mayo to go ahead on Sunday week

Dublin and Mayo will square off at Croke Park on Sunday week, and not under lights on the Friday night, after the Dubs' wishes were rebuffed by GAA authorities
The Dublin County Board was keen to switch the game to Friday night to extend its night-time Spring Series at Croke Park and complete a St Patrick's Festival two-day double header at GAA HQ following the previous day's All-Ireland club finals.
The idea would have generated plenty of interest in the capital, extending the success of the Spring Series which has attracted attendances of 35,000 and 23,000 to Croker for the Dubs' previous home games over the past month.
However, Mayo were opposed to the staging of the game on the Friday night for obvious logistical reasons, and with the Saturday evening a non-runner due to the Ireland-England Six Nations rugby international at the Aviva Stadium, the game will now go ahead as originally planned on the Sunday afternoon.
With the game taking place at the end of a hectic weekend of sport and socialising, the Dublin County Board will be bracing itself for a stark drop in attendance figures and revenue from the fixture.
