Aughlisnafin club notes

June 19, 2017

*Our U12's were away to league leaders Bright on Sunday morning. As for most games this season we never seem to be able to call on full panel with several players unavailable for various reasons. But yet again we were determined to fulfil the fixture and our young but eager team made sure Bright had to work hard for their six point win. Final score Aughlisnafin 3-10 St Pauls 6-7. Scorers for the 'Fin were Conor O'Hare (2-1), Marty Og Flanagan (1-0), Niall Dornan (0-03), Calum Lyttle & Anthony Quinn (0-2), Conor Walsh, & Reece Tweedie (0-1).

*The U14's were in scintillating form at home to Dundrum to get back to winning ways in the league. An understrength 'Fin team lost the reverse fixture by a point earlier in the season but with a full panel available the 'Fin were on top throughout. Final score Aughlisnafin 7-29 Dundrum 3-4. Scorers for the 'Fin were Rhys Clarke (2-5), Peter O'Hare (1-7), Ethan Lyttle (1-6), Corey McCann (2-2), Marc Quinn (0-5, 2 '25s), Owen O'Neill (1-2), Jack Keenan (0-1), Conor Walsh (0-1). Odhran Maguire was again outstanding in nets with both fullbacks Donnacha Murphy and Anthony Quinn in commanding form.

*The U14's took their excellent scoring form into the Attical Tournament to score 25 goals and 16 points in six games. The Fin defeated Attical Ogs and An Riocht in the group stage but lost out to Bryansford and Clonduff B. They progressed to the quarter final of the shield were they met Clonduff B again. In the group game Clonduff won a closely contested game by one point but this time round the 'Fin hit the net a remarkable ten times to set up a semi final meeting with Mayobridge. By this stage the heat was energy sapping and despite the 'Fin's best efforts the 'Bridge won through to the final and went on to win it outright. Aughlisnafin squad: O Maguire, A Quinn (1-0), M Quinn (10-1), E Lyttle (4-4), P OHare (5-3), O Oneill (0-1), R Clarke (5-7), E Murray, C McCann, D Murphy.
