Aughlisnafin club notes

September 26, 2016

Aughlisnafin U12.5's were away to Drumaness in their third round robin game in the Division 3 Championship. The host club played out their league campaign in division 2 and dropping down to the third tier meant they were going to provide a stern test of the young 'Fin sides credentials, and so it proved to be the case. Going in to the game the 'Fin had won both their group games to date but on the day Drumaness won most of the match ups and were good value for their win. Final score Drumaness 9-04 Aughlisnafin 0-05. This Sunday the 'Fin have a 'bye' and hopefully a challenge game will be organised to compensate. On Sunday 9th October the 'Fin will travel to near neighbours Dundrum for their final group game still with a chance of making a third final in five seasons at this grade. Training continues this Thursday evening at 6.15 pm in Annsborough.

*The U16s and U14s football is now over for the season. The U16s exceeded most commentators expectations to finish as the third best team in both the East Down 13-aside league & championship campaigns behind the double winners Liatroim and the strong Loughinisland & Teconnaught amalgamation Rosconnor Gaels. Next season the U16s will again compete in the top section in East Down with development and progression of the players at the forefront of the club's coaching ethos.

The U14's also finished third in a very competitive 13-aside B division but the timing of the championship meant key players were unavailable to progress beyond the group stage. It is hoped the U14s can remain in the middle tier in East Down next season with the U12 division 3 winners from 2015 making up the bulk of the squad. The U14s also had three representatives on the East Down Development squad in Conor Matthews, Dermy Lavery and Morgan Croskery.

We thank the players of both U16 & U14 squads and their management teams for their efforts and commitments over the course of the season and no doubt they will be keen to re-double their efforts next season.

*There will be strength and conditioning sessions organised for the U16 and minors over the winter months. Details soon.

*The only other team still competing on the field are the U8.5s & U10.5s. The U8.5s will travel to the home of the county teams, Pairc Esler, to take part in the Newry Shamrocks Tournament this Saturday. *The club invite all members to an open club development information evening to be held in Annsborough Community Hall on Thursday 6th October at 7.30 pm. We would ask that everyone with a vested interest in the future of the club come along to hear of the club's development plans, especially for our underage teams, and to provide feedback on same.
