Aimee Mackin - All-Star

Congratulations to our ladies footballer Aimee Mackin who picked an All-Star award at the annual ceremony in Dublin on Saturday night. Aimee was nominated in the number 15 position and was up against some very tough competition but thankfully it was Aimee who collected trophy. Everyone at the club would like to congratulate this fantastic young lady on her award - we are all extremely proud of her.

U21s

Our U21s were in championship semi-final action on Sunday afternoon in Silverbridge against Craobh Ciaran and another massive performance from the lads saw them through the final on score-line of 3 - 11 to 2 - 6.

The Shanes were slow to start and found themselves two points in arrears early on before points from Connaire Mackin and Mark McCabe had them back on level terms with another two Mackin frees edging them slightly ahead. Craobh Ciaran replied with a point of their own to get back within one before they netted for the first time in the game to get themselves back in front again. A Ryan Quinn point cut the deficit to just a single point but it was the amalgamated side who got the last point of the half to lead by two at the break, 1 - 4 to 0 - 5.

Craobh Ciaran made the better start to the second period and an early goal increased their advantage to five. However the goal only spurred the Shanes on to lift their game and point from Mark McCabe kept them right in the contest before Oisin Murphy punished a mistake by the Craobh Ciaran keeper to flash the ball to the back of the net to leave just the minimum between the sides. Minutes later the Shanes went two front when Connaire Mackin coolly slotted home a penalty following an off the ball foul in the square. A free for Craobh Ciaran was quickly cancelled out by a Mark McCabe point before Connaire Mackin slotted over another placed ball to put his side three to the good. The same player had an opportunity minutes later to put six between them but his second penalty of the game was brilliantly saved by the keeper but Mackin kept his cool to slot the rebound over the bar. Croabh Ciaran kept themselves in the game with another pointed free but the Shanes finished the game the stronger side with their defence outstanding and they managed to keep their opponents scoreless for the remainder of the contest. The Shanes all but sealed their win when a long ball to the edge of the small square was punched to the net by Mark McCabe and the same player tagged on another two points to leave the Camlough side deserved winners on a score-line of 3 - 11 to 2 - 6.

Training takes place on Wednesday and Friday evenings this coming week as the lads prepare for the championship final against Clann Eireann next Sunday in the Athletic Grounds and everyone is asked to come along to lend the lads your support.

Marty has so often over the years volunteered his time and services not only to Shane O'Neill's but to so many other strands in our community. Marty is also widely known in local music circles and on the 5th December we hope to have a selection of local musicians, including Marty's own band Village Folk, playing in the club.
