St Johns club notes

June 29, 2015

The Seniors had no fixture this week. On Friday 3 July they are at home to Loughinisland.

The Reserves beat Dundrum 4-10 to 1-10 at home on Sunday evening. Word is that the evergreen Sean Kelly even scored a point!

The ladies game against Aughlisnafin was rescheduled to Tuesday evening. Score details in next weeks notes.

The Minors were at home to Drumaness on Tuesday 23 June but came out on the wrong end of a 2-6 to 3-14 scoreline. On Tuesday evening they were away to Dromara.

On Thursday evening our Under 16s played the only team that beat them in the first round of the league, this being a very good Ardglass team. At half time we were leading 2-11 to 1-11. Yes we were playing well with Andrew, Caolan, Calum and Owen getting great scores from play. Our defence in the second half were brilliant with Oisin pushing up only to be denied by the goalie. Ciaran making good runs to be rewarded by a point. Tiernan got the point of the match 30m out just in off the sideline, he was well pleased. Jon was very impressive in the forward line winning ball and laying it off to others.

Topper better watch out as Peirce pulled off six top draw saves from play but kept the best until 10 minutes to go. The penalty save was tremendous and the whole team realised this and pushed on. The game ended in a draw with Ardglass getting a free on the last kick of the game to level the scores. This is the second penalty Peirce has save this year, well done big lad. The final score was St Johns 3-14 Ardglass 2-17. This Thursday they are away to Dundrum.

Last Monday the Under 14s had a 10-7 to 3-3 win at home to Teconnaught. Monday evenings game against St Pauls was postponed. On Monday 6 July they are at home to Aughlisnafin.

The Under 12s were at home to Bredagh on Sunday morning. Score details in next weeks notes. On Sunday 5 July they are away to Teconnaught.

Our Under 10s turned out in force for our home blitz on Saturday morning with fourteen players all eager to play football. Even at that we were three down due to other commitments. We played Aughlisnafin first with great defending skills coming from Arron , Conor and Michael. Our next match was against Carryduff. This was a hard match with Owen in goals, Chrissy  and Adam in defence  won a lot of ball made great runs and layed off to our forwards who were in great form.

Our forwards were Katie M, Aiden and Patrick. Our last match was against Drumaness. We had two great sports men who helped out Drumaness as they were short two players. Donal who was outstanding and Finn who scored two points against us. We have a good memory Finn! Thanks to the participating teams and I am thinking seriously about buying shares in Easons.

The Under 8s enjoyed their Blitz on Saturday morning in Bryansfordwith games against the hosts, Ballykinlar and Saul. Thanks to all who came along for their support. Under 8s training takes a break on Tuesday 7 and 14 July before resuming on Tuesday 21 July. Before the the Under 8s are back in action on Saturday 18 July when they take part in Ballykinlar's Tournament. The following week they then are travelling to the St Pauls Blitz the week after so hopefully they put in plenty of practice at home over the start of the school holidays!
