HISTORICAL FACT (researched and supplied by Fintan Mussen)

FOOTBALL
Div 1 ACFL Clonduff 4-13 v Annaclone 0-7
Clonduff made it 7 league points from 10 with a rampant win over Annaclone. Early evening rain ensured a fast moving ball on the lush green grass of an immaculate Clonduff park. Clonduff made one change from the team who beat Banbridge with the return of Darren O'Hagan. Annaclone opened the scoring after 2 minutes from a free but didn't score again until the 19th minute. In the meantime Clonduff put 1-5 on the board of which the pleasing aspect was the form of free takers Barry O' Hagan (0-1) and Arthur Mc Conville (0-3). Clonduff play was noticeably more constructive than previous games, turning the ball over with numbers in defence, moving the ball wide first time and hitting the front men with direct passing. The crucial score came in the 29th minute from an Aidan Carr penalty which with a point from play from Packie O'Hagan saw Clonduff lead at half time 2-7 to 0-4.
The interval didn't stall Clonduff's momentum and despite extra cover in the Annaclone defence the first time ball was paying dividends. The hard working Henry Brown was rewarded with a good point from play after 13 minutes and Clonduff added 2-6 in total in the second half of which only one point was from a free.
Gary Haughian was solid in possession in the Clonduff goals and was given plenty of protection from Mark Mc Polin at full back. Darren O'Hagan helped to provide cover in the defence where Shane O' Hagan also had a steady game. Arthur Mc Conville thrived under the early direct ball where he and Barry O'Hagan finished with a combined tally of 3-8.
Clonduff play Bryansford away in their next game.

SD RFL Clonduff III v Saval III

ACMFL Bryansford 2-8 Clonduff 3-12
ACMFL Clonduff 3-12 v Bryansford 2-8
This was a great performance from the boys given they were missing a number of regulars due to exam commitments. Going 7 points down early in the game, the boys had to dig deep. Two Shane McGarry goals and a number of long range points from Charlie Carr, Ryan McGreevy, Brandon Roe, Conor Woods and Conor Murray left Clonduff going in at half time two points up. A strong second half left Clonduff running out winners by seven points.
Team and scorers: Conor Keenan, Jonathon Gribben, Lorcan Branagan, Michael Mulholland, Darragh O'Hanlon, Niall O'Hagan, Pearse Murnin, Charlie Carr (0-4), Noel Grant, Conor Lowry, Conor Murray (1-1), Brandon Roe, (0-1), Shane McGarry (2-0), Ryan McGreevy (0-5), Conor Woods (0-1); Sub Used: Rhys Ward
The boys took part in the South Down Minor Sevens on Sunday in St Mark's Warrenpoint. Longstone, the eventual winners defeated Clonduff in the Semi Final by a goal.
U12 FOOTBALLERS VISIT CROSSMAGLEN
At the invitation of Crossmaglen GAA Club the Clonduff U12 boys had a most enjoyable visit to the Rangers Club. Thirteen players travelled on Wednesday evening and played in all 3 of the 15 min periods on a full size pitch. A draw was a fitting end to this very entertaining encounter when both teams rose to the challenge and produced some great passages of play. A very good outing was had by all and Crossmaglen Management is very keen to arrange a return visit later in the year.

LADIES FOOTBALL
LGFA Junior League - Downpatrick v Clonduff
The Senior Ladies suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of pace setters Downpatrick on Saturday evening. They still retain second position in the league.
LGFA U16 League - Clonduff 3-4 v Clonduff 5-9
The Clonduff girls played some great football in the first half to lead 2-8 to 1-1 at the break assisted by a strong breeze.  In the second half Teconnaught came back into the game but in the end Clonduff had a comfortable 11 point win. The whole team played very well. Shannon O'Reilly in goals brought off three top drawer saves; Katie McGilligan, Clara Cowan, Erin Rafferty, Isabella O'Hare, Laura Mackin and Tierna Mullan were the outstanding outfield players.

CAMOGIE
Many congratulation to the Ulster Camogie team who won the Junior Gael Linn Inter Provincial title on Sunday beating Leinster in the Semi Final and Munster in the Final. There were three Down girls on the team - Catherine McGourty, Niamh Mallon and our own Sara Louise Carr. Well done everybody.
U14 Camogie League - A very young Clonduff team defeated Liatroim on Tuesday night. We wish Katie Morgan a speedy recovery - she sustained a broken finger in the game.

HURLING
ACHL Div 2 Castlewellan 1-11 v Clonduff 2-16
The Clonduff Hurlers travelled to Castlewellan on Monday evening in a bid to add to their impressive start to the Down League a week earlier. Travelling with a depleted squad, Clonduff's strength and depth in the panel was put to the test, a test they truly rose to by clocking up a half time score of 1-10 to 0-5
The Second half was to be a bigger battle now facing a wind that had grown in strength at the break. The home side started to capitalise with long range scores. Clonduff, however, never panicked and worked tirelessly against the breeze to run out victorious with a 2-16 to 1-11 scoreline.
There were excellent performances all over the field with Mark Downey, Paddy Branagan (Jnr) and Christopher Young singled out for particular mention.
Next week the Hurlers make that all important trip to the Ards to face Ballycran and will have no fear of putting it up to men across the water!

Well done to the young Clonduff girls who played in the Feile Handball finals on Thursday night. Clonduff fielded two teams both of who were narrowly defeated but every girl who was playing has at least another two years at the level.
