Ballymartin GAC Club Notes

May 11, 2015

There was a great turnout for the Poker Classic on Friday night past. Thanks to everyone who turned out and around of applause to Liam 'Poker Face' Byrne for organising a great evening and laying on an excellent array of sandwiches to sustain the participants.   Over £1,000 in prize money was handed out with a first prize of £700.  We will endeavour to run another game soon, so watch this space and keep an eye out for a poker.  See you all soon. *   Ballymartin Primary School will have their First Holy Communion this Saturday 16 May at 11AM.  The following Friday 22 May, Bishop Farquhar will be visiting St. Josephs Ballymartin for Confirmation in the Parish, this starts at 11AM.

*   The Seniors had a great win on Friday; 1-11 vs. 0-07 Newry Shamrocks.  At the half in the worst of weather with Ballymartin playing into the wind and driving rain it was 0-03 vs. 0-06 Shamrocks.  When they came out the Whites took full advantage of the wind and drove the Shamrocks back to Newry, holding them to a single point while the Whites a goal and eight.  This Friday 15th May in the O'Neills Down ACFL Div. 2 Round 5 at 7.30pm, Ballymartin host Kilclief Ben Dearg GAC, Referee: Eamon Mc McCarthy.

*   On Sunday the reserves put up a battle against the wind and each rival.  The high winds wreaked havoc with the ball high in the air, this led to a very high WIDE count and a very low score line.  Ballymartin 0-05 v 1-01 Clonduff, Clonduff were held to one point in the first half followed by a tremendous goal in the last five minutes of the second period.  This Sunday in the South Down RFL at 2pm Atticall host Ballymartin.

*   The Ballymartin U-12 girls travelled to Cumann Pheadair Naofa last Wednesday evening for their 3rd match of the league.  This was a very competitive, yet, low scoring game with our girls playing some great quick passing football to edge out the first half with a score of 0-01 to 0-04.  With Cumann Pheadair Naofa continuing to press in the second half, these young girls defended strongly and pulled off a couple more fine scores to win by Ballymartin 0-01 vs. 0-06 Cumann Pheadair Naofa.  The second game gave the rest of the panel a chance to display their skills and this proved to be a thoroughly skilful and entertaining game.  Next up, away to Bosco tonight (Wednesday 13 May).  Coaching continues each Monday evening.
