St Johns Notes

May 11, 2015

St Johns Seniors ACFL Division 2 game at home to Tullylish on Friday night was abandoned with 8 minutes remaining due to an injury to a Tullylish player. The scores were level when the referee abandoned the game. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the Tullylish player.
On Sunday afternoon the Seniors maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-12 to 0-8 win away to Drumgath despite trailing 0-5 to 0-4 at the half time whistle. Scorers were Conor Gilmore 0-3 (0-2f), Hugh Flanagan 1-1, John Clarke 0-4, Chris McKay 0-2, Marty Keenan 0-1 and Conor Branniff 0-1. On Friday night they are away to An Riocht.

The reserves lost 5-10 to 3-10 at home to Bryansford on Sunday evening. Next Sunday they are away to Liatroim at 6.00pm.

St Johns Ladies secured an impressive 2-13 to 1-6 win away to Aughlisnafin on Saturday evening.

St Johns Minors enjoyed a 7-5 to 1-12 win away to Ardglass last Tuesday evening. St Johns Minors have now got 3 wins in a row. The Johnnies had great performances all over the pitch but Dylan Kelly stood out at the back once again with some excellent defending. Paul Walsh, Aodhan Morgan and Eoin Moag where very good around midfield and their running ability was too strong for Ardglass. Ruairi Mahon was hard to stop on the night with some very good work from the half forward. Ruairi smashed in two goals on the night and the keeper had no chance of stopping them. Best player on the field for the first time this year was Michael McCourt. McCourt was too smart and skilful for the Ardglass full back. McCourt made sure he hit the target with every chance he got, with 5 goals on the night McCourt was on cracking form. Scorers were Michael McCourt 5-0, Ruairi Mahon 2-0, Aodhan Morgan 0-3 and Tiernan Node 0-2. On Tuesday 12 May they were at home to Kilclief - details in next weeks notes.

The Under 16s travelled to Carryduff on Thursday night. Cold as it was our lads really stepped up to the mark. The only disappointment on the night was to take our captain off at half time due to injury. Dylan played great in full back and Oisin in his new role at half back won a lot of ball. Owen and Ciaran in midfield took some great scores. Rory and Andrew were great feeding the ball to Callum and Caolan in the forward line. This was a team effort and the lads all knew it. The final score was Carryduff 0-4 St Johns 6-17. On Thursday evening they are at home to Darragh Cross.

The Under 14s had an impressive 6-14 to 7-6 win in Teconnaught last Monday night to make it three wins in a row. It was a tough game with the defence playing really hard. Rory McMullan ran up and down the pitch scoring some great scores. Overall it was a great team performance. On Monday evening they were at home to St Pauls - details in next weeks notes.

The Under 12s lost by 5-7 to 7-7 at home to Teconnaught on Sunday morning. Next Sunday they make the trip to Holywood to take on St Pauls.
