Aughlisnafin club notes

November 24, 2014

Aughlisnafin GAC are extremely pleased to confirm the appointment of Conor Deegan as senior team manager for the coming season. After his feats for Down in the eighties and nineties which saw him win two All Ireland Senior and an All Ireland Minor Football Championships under Pete McGrath, and also saw great success with his club R.G.U. Downpatrick, it was Dublin club Kilmacud Crokes where Conor saw out his playing career.

After celebrating ten years since the re-formation of the senior team the club is now looking to move forward into the next decade with a greater sense of purpose. A strong youth structure, which was set up in 2008, will see the first group of minors stepping up to the senior team and the next few years will be a very exciting time for the club both on and off the field. We are very lucky to have a man of Conor's calibre on board and he will have our absolute support going forward.

The Juvenile Awards Presentation Night will be held in the newly re-furbished Aughlisnafin Community Hall on Friday 28th November at 7 pm. Down & Longstone Ambrose Rodgers has very kindly accepted our invitation to present the awards. There will be complimentary food for all the underage players and refreshments also for guests, parents and siblings. All members attending should contact Gerard Lenaghan or Joan King to confirm for catering requirements.

The Annual Club Mass was very well attended last Thursday evening. We thank Father Dennis and everyone who helped out and/or attended the mass. Special mention to the group underage players who provided the music and no doubt they will grace the Scor scene in years to come, an area the club wish promote as part of our progression to a Club Maith accreditation.

The AGM will be held on Sunday 30th November at 3 pm. This is an exciting time for the club, both on and off the field, and members are encouraged to attend the AGM to reflect on the past year and to help shape and plan the future of Aughlisnafin GAC. We would particularly encourage the parents/guardians of our juvenile players to come along to view at first hand the massive progress the club has made to date and to lend a helping hand no matter how big or small.

Winter coaching programme for U6's continues every Saturday in the Fin Hall at 10.30 am. New players welcome to join, for ages 4-7.

Strength & conditioning sessions for U-17 and U-15 players in the Fin Hall was to commence this Thursday but due to a clash with the opening night at St Malachy's it has been postponed to Thursday week. New players, those not affiliated to any other clubs in the football code, are welcome to come along.

Santa Sunday in Aughlisnafin Community Hall will be held on Sunday 21st December at 2 pm.

ed that you must seek permission from anyone you are nominating for a role in the club. This is an exciting time for the club, on and off the field, and members are encouraged to attend the AGM to reflect on the past year and to help shape and plan the future.
