St Johns club notes

October 20, 2014

We will be planting daffodil bulbs on Saturday 25 October from 10.00am to create a Marie Curie Field of Memories. You are very welcome to join us, perhaps to plant a bulb in memory of a loved one, and make a donation to the work of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Action Cancer Big Bus was back at the club on Saturday and had another busy day. It will return for its fourth and final visit of the year on Saturday 15 November. As of Friday past there were 10 appointments for breast screening and 15 for general health checks available. To book an appointment phone Action Cancer on 028 9080 3344 or go online at www.actioncancer.org.

There are still a couple of weeks left in the Action Cancer "Cook It" programme which is going very well. When that programme is complete Action Cancer will be delivering a one-off "Health Promotion Lunchbox" session on Wednesday 12 November. This session will give parents an opportunity to discover new, healthy ideas for their children's lunch boxes. The session will include a talk about healthy eating for children followed by a visual display of healthy lunchbox ideas. Parents will also be given the opportunity to taste some healthy lunches during this session and will be given lots of lunch box ideas, recipes and leaflets to try at home. To get some idea of numbers please contact club secretary Kevin McGlynn (078 3596 0804) if you are interested in attending. The half-way session for the Action Men is a week before that, on Wednesday 5 November.

Our AGM will be held at 7.15pm on Thursday 13 November. Nominations for 2015 committee, motions and recommendations should be returned to Kevin McGlynn by Thursday 23rd October. You can download the nomination form from the club website at www.stjohnsgaa.com.

The club are holding an open meeting on Wednesday 29 October at 8.00pm to discuss the formation of the St Johns Drama Group. If you have an interest in being part of this in any capacity come along to find out more details.

Mass for deceased members will be held on Monday 3 November in Clanvaraghan.

The club shop is closed for the season but if you wish to order any club gear contact Pep Keenan on 07779 613 468.

Anyone looking to book a racing slot can contact the organisers through the Camp JMac Facebook page or contact Cormac on 07871 373 381.
