Down SFC: Kilcoo and Burren to renew final rivalry

Down's Donal O'Hare

The Down SFC final on October 5 will be a repeat of last year's decider between Kilcoo and Burren.

In Friday night's first semi-final, Kilcoo - who are seeking a third title on the trot - defeated Mayobridge 2-12 to 3-5. Mayobridge scored two goals in the opening four minutes through Adrian Barry and Ryan Brady, but a scrambled Aaron Morgan goal at the other end brought the holders level at half-time, 1-5 to 2-2.

The charges of new Down manager Jim McCorry went four points clear on the restart, only for Mayobridge to level again with a Conleth O'Hare goal. But Kilcoo finished the stronger to reach another final where they will face a Burren side who walloped Longstone 2-17 to 1-6 in the second semi-final on Saturday.

County star Donal O'Hare bagged 2-6 for Paddy Carr's charges, who had stormed into a 0-11 to 0-3 lead by half-time. Longstone's misery was completed by the late dismissal of Malachy Trainor.
