Down county board chairman Seamus Walsh has praised Ger Monan for the work he done during his time as senior hurling manager.

Monan completed five years in charge of the Mourne men, during which time the lifted the Christy Ring Cup in 2013, which Walsh admitted to the Mourne Observer was the highlight of his tenure.

"The highlight for us all was the Christy Ring Cup win in 2013 and it was a just reward for the efforts of Gerard and his management team," said Walsh.

"At all times, Gerard was an excellent representative for Down and a man who we were very proud to have as our manager. We wish him and his family every success in the future."
