Kilcoo Club Notes

July 21, 2014
With a downturn in fixtures over these last few weeks due to holidays things have been relatively quiet about the club. On Wednesday evening the under 14 boys played Clonduff in a challenge match in Kilcoo and this proved a useful work out for both teams. With the visitors short of a few key players the Kilcoo lads were able to play free flowing attacking football and ran out comfortable winners.
On Thursday evening the under 16 ladies footballers played host to Bredagh in the league. Traditionally the Kilcoo girls have always found the going tough against the class of Bredagh, but on this occasion the Kilcoo girls, many of whom will be underage next season indeed in some cases for a couple more seasons, played as a unit and looked very impressive displaying some fine tackling and attacking skills. Indeed the girls turned in one of their best ever displays and ran out comfortable winners on a score line of Kilcoo 04-08 Bredagh 03-05.

Whilst there has been a decrease in fixtures the club's own summer camp was running in near perfect weather conditions. Every day 85 children enjoyed intensive coaching in the skills of the games. The club's own coaches provided excellent tuition and guidance to our future stars and are all to be thanked for this. On Thursday Armagh star Ciaran McKeever dropped in and it wasn't long till he was in the thick of things helping the coaches, providing tips and answering questions. Providing quality coaching in the medium of the Irish Language Peadar Hynes proved a big hit with the youngsters. The club wishes to thank Ciaran and Peadar, our own coaches, members of our senior squads that dropped in to help and everyone that helped out.

On Saturday the Camogs hosted a blitz for under 6's, 8's and 10's. There was a great turn out for this and these fledgling stars of tomorrow had a great morning of games with the emphasis on skill and participation. Also the club used a number of young whistlers to facilitate these games and they done the club proud. Well done to all involved and thank you to all that helped.
The U12 boys had a great win on Sunday morning over a good Saul team. With some of our older U12 boys missing the younger boys stepped up to produce a great display of football. After a slow start in the first half they came out in the second half and took control of the match to win 4-7 to 2-11 well done lads

Also on Sunday the Seconds travelled to Bryansford and secured a great win with a score line of Bryansford 00-09 Kilcoo 01-14. This win puts the seconds back on top of the league but with a number of other teams having games in hand this position is far from final. Disappointingly the thirds game was called of at short notice on Sunday. Currently they are sitting 5th in the league and have been playing well.
The fourths team played Bryansford thirds on Sunday evening and this was a tight affair in this top of the table clash. So tight was this game that they couldn't be separated at the final whistle. Bryansford 01-12 Kilcoo 02-09. This result leaves both teams joint top of the East Down Reserve League.

As some of you will be aware the club's next phase of development, which includes the provision of a new play park and street lighting and new paths and parking at the pitches is due to start in the immediate future. The contract for the lighting and new parking and paths has been awarded to Pearce McEvoy whom you may remember was the contractor responsible for the provision of the new pitch. As yet the name for the contractor for the new play park has not been announced. As with all works safety is the major concern and we ask parents to ensure their children are not left unsupervised around these works when they commence and that as parents you make your children aware of the dangers of encroaching on them.
