Match Reports

Senior Football An Riocht v Glasdrumman
Showing six changes from the team which won in Saul, An Riocht demonstrated improved strength in depth in defeating a poor Glasdrumman side at Dunavil on Wednesday. An Riocht played with a sustained intensity which overran the visitors for most of the hour and did our score difference a power of good.
The visitors opened the scoring but it was a fleeting advantage and An Riocht were already four one ahead when John Clarke fired in the first goal after good play from Damian Sherry, Paul Allen and Michael Trainor.
It was 1-10 to 0-4 when Rory Cunningham finished home the second goal off a Liam McVeigh burst in the twenty third minute and at the break fifteen points separated the teams, 2-13 to 0-4.
A second goal from Rory Cunningham in the thirty third minute after good combination play from Neil Doran and John Clarke, signalled wholesale substitutions and a raft of excellent points from Neil Doran which helped make the final score 3-26 to 0-7.
An Riocht: Brendan McVeigh, Michael Trainor, Paul Allen, Deaglan O'Reilly, Conor Doyle, Liam McVeigh, Paul Sherry 0-1, James Cunningham 0-1, Paul Murney, Damian Sherry 0-2, Ronan McAlinden 0-3 (45), Rory Cunningham 2-2, Noel McArdle 0-3 (2f), Neil Doran 0-8, John Clarke 1-5 (2f).

Referee: Declan Ryan.

Senior Camogie An Riocht v Ballyholland
The Senior Camogie Championship match between An Riocht and Ballyholland (winner v Ben Dearg or Castlewellan on 21st July) was abandoned amid sustained thunder and lightning at Atticall on Sunday.
Early points from Noelle Fearon and Maria Higgins were answered with like scores before Ballyholland took the lead with a fifteenth minute goal and went on to lead by four. Carrie Killen and Maria Higgins pulled back points apiece before Colleen Fearon got on the end of a Nicole Kelly pass to blast a goal. Ballyholland hit back with a couple of frees but Colleen Fearon grabbed a second goal to put An Riocht 2-4 to 1-5 clear at the break.
Conditions deteriorated over the interval and though Ballyholland began the half with an unanswered 1-2, to first level then edge ahead, the weather got continually worse and the referee was left with no option but to call a halt to proceedings in the interests of safety.
Team: Joanna Sloan, Clara Killen, Louise Rodgers, Ciara Cunningham, Niamh McDowell, Aisling Clarke, Aine O'Reilly, Marie Trainor, Nicole Kelly, Maria Higgins 0-2, Carrie Killen 0-1, Noelle Fearon 0-1, Sarah Rodgers, Colleen Fearon 2-0, Danielle Higgins. Sub Claire Connor.

Reserve Football An Riocht v Tullylish
The Reserve Footballers recovered from a slow start to lead 1-8 to 0-4 at half time and eventually beat visiting Tullylish at Dunavil on Sunday. Brendan Allen made a couple of good saves early on and Declan Clarke and John O'Rourke starred in defence with Paddy Gartland and Deaglan Morgan impressive in attack.

U16 Camogie An Riocht v Kilcoo
The U16 Camogs had Kilcoo as visitors to Dunavil on Tuesday in their last official fixture of the season and came away with the win.

U14 Camogie An Riocht v Castlewellan
Castlewellan visited Dunavil on Friday in the U14 Camogie Championship, the home side started well scoring 5-3 in the first half. At halftime with the game well under control the coaches moved the backs and forwards and the backs outscored the front players to leave the coaches with some thinking before they meet Mayobridge in the semi-final. This was an excellent result as six players were missing due to holidays and the summer Irish college season, well done girls.
Team: Naomi Finnegan, Orlaith O Rourke, Caoimhe Lee Spiers, Cerys Clarke, Kara Sloan, Caitlin Quinn, Andrea O'Neill, Mollie Ireland, Aoife Mc Dowell, Shannagh Campbell, Aimee Harper, Eve Doran, Caoimhe Donnan, Rachel Cunningham, Ciarrai Connor.

U10 Football Ballymartin v An Riocht & Glasdrumman v An Riocht
The An Riocht U10 Footballers rounded off the Mourne League with matches in Ballymartin and Glasdrumman.

U12 Camogie An Riocht v Portaferry
Well done to the U12 Camogs who won a close match 5-3 to 5-2 with Portaferry on Thursday at Dunavil. Aimee Harper was brilliant at the heart of the defence and well supported by Caitlin Small and Emily Finnegan. The goal keeping of Lara Higgins and defensive play of Rachel Clarke and Cerys Clarke was exceptional while centre fielders Caoimhe Donnan and Amy Clarke were outstanding. In attack Shannagh Campbell, Nanette Campbell and Mollie Ireland got the scores to give the girls a credit worthy success.
Team: Lara Higgins, Caitlin Small, Aimee Harper, Emily Finnegan, Rachel Clarke, Shannagh Campbell, Caoimhe Donnan, Cerys Clarke, Nanette Campbell, Amy Clarke, Mollie Ireland.

The Cancer Focus Man Van and the Kingdom to Cooley Charity Cycle in aid of Southern Area Hospice and Club Development took place on Saturday.
The weather was kind, the participants enthusiastic and the helpers willing, which all combined to make a most memorable experience for those involved.
The cyclists began to gather from 7am and were soon allocated start times and as the day progressed everyone was surprised at how quickly they all covered the 110k route.
Thanks to JMC Cycles Dromintee for their assistance with the launch; Mourne Cycles Newcastle for their help with running repairs; Cooley Kickams for their hospitality before the return journey; the stewards whose meticulous attention to detail ensured there were no upsets on the day; the sponsors who contributed (all outstanding sponsored money should be handed in this week); and the cyclists without whom none of it could have happened!
Regular cycle runs are planned over the summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays; visit the facebook page for updates.
Meantime while almost 200 cyclists and support staff were on the road the Cancer Focus Man Van was set up at Dunavil providing health checks and personal assessments for a steady stream of clients over a four hour period; thanks to Sandra and Linda for their attendance.

The next big thing at the Kingdom will be the 10k & 5k Family Fun Trek Challenge on Sunday 24th August; anyone willing to help with the organisation should contact the club asap as arrangements need to take shape sharply.
