Kieran McGeeney says he could get over an Ulster SFC loss to Down if Armagh went on to reach the Super 8s.

The Orchard County have yet to win a provincial championship match under McGeeney’s tenure – losing four from four – but have proven competitive towards the latter stages of the summer:

“There’s a lot made of me winning an Ulster championship match but it’s not about me, it’s about them [the players],” the 2002 All-Ireland winning captain told The Irish News. “And, to be honest, if we lost against Down and got to the Super 8s, I’d settle for that.

“You’d love to try to push for the Super 8s. The whole thing is about playing against the top teams and improving. The team has been steadily improving and that is the curve you want to be on.”
