There was a full house for the Newry, Mourne & Down Council reception held at Dunavil on Friday evening. Council Chair Roisin Mulgrew presented rose bowls to the Men's Shed and to the Ladies of Mourne in recognition of charity and community engagement; also in attendance were local councillor Sean Doran and MLA Sinead Ennis.

An Riocht were well represented at the Camogie Awards in Castlewellan on Friday. Colleen Fearon collected the Division Two League Cup, Sarah Rodgers the Division Three League Cup, Tiarna Donnan the Minor League Shield and Lauren Clarke the Division Three Player of the Year Award.

In the Basketball NI Premier League the Knights beat Queens BC at Dunavil on Friday. The next home match is on Friday 1st December v Tyrone Towers.

Kingdom YC has registered to participate in activities during Anti-Bullying Week from 13th to 17th November.

We have seven names for a Foundation Football course and need 5 more before the course can be run at Dunavil. Also, those already with a Foundation Award should be seriously considering moving on to Level One; there's no better time than the close-season for completing coaching qualifications. Contact Coaching Officer Seamus Curran or the office to book your place.

Aoife Ni Chasaide, All Ireland winning captain of Slaughtneill Camogie is the special guest of An Riocht Camogs at the club's annual Dinner & Awards Night on Saturday 18th November in the Canal Court Hotel Newry. 2017 was a great year for An Riocht Camogie winning the Down Second and Third Divisions and the Minor League. Also, the U16 reached the Championship Final and the Coaching Academy which caters for the younger ages was recognised in the SportNI Coaching Awards.

Also in attendance will be Peter McGrath, the current Louth manager guided An Riocht Senior Footballers to the Down Division One title ten years ago in 2007, the only time the Cup has ever rested in the Kingdom of Mourne; and John Morrison, respected GAA Coach and Author who has been helping out with An Riocht since the early days of the club in the eighties will also be present. Remaining tickets are available through Klubfunder.

The An Riocht Club Annual General Meeting is at 7.30pm on Thursday 30th November and all positions are available for election.

The committee has seen a lot of positive change this past twelve months with Diana Clare coming in as Irish & Culture Officer, Barney McCartan as Health & Wellbeing Officer, Alice Magee as Assistant Secretary, Conor Morgan as Registrar and Joanna Sloan and Paula Fearon as joint-Chairs of Camogie, not forgetting Club Chairperson Tara Campbell and Vice-Chair Raymond Sloan all completing a successful first year in office.

New blood has breathed life into the Club sub-committee structure also with Clara Killen (Camogie), Declan Colgan and Laura Harper (Planning & Physical Development) examples of players, supporters and parents accepting responsibility to move the Club forward.

There are still gaps to be filled but with good organisation and support no position should ever be too daunting to accept.

In obvious need of attention at this time are the position of Assistant Treasurer which has been vacant throughout 2017, a Children's Officer as June is taking some necessary time out, an Entertainments Officer, a PR sub-committee to ensure An Riocht receives best coverage across all media outlets, help with football administration and active Player Reps on the committee. If anyone can help in any of these aspects, please let a Club Officer know in advance and attend the AGM.

The need for more qualified coaches to improve and be role models for our children is ongoing, there can never be enough coaches, the more coaches there are the less the ratio of coach to child. And coaches require support, there's a role for everyone, An Riocht is a truly volunteer led clubs and relies 100% on you the volunteer stepping forward to help. Give it some thought and get involved as much as you feel you can.
