St. Eunan's U14 Camogie Complete successful season in style

June 29, 2016

It has been  a very successful couple of weeks for the St. Eunan's U14 Camogie team. The girls travelled to Tipperary last week for the All-Ireland Féile where they were hosted by Kilruane McDonagh's from Cloughjordan in North Tipp. After a slow start in the group stages where they were beaten narrowly in a couple of games the girls came to life in the knockout stages of the Shield competition. In the quarter final they took on Blackrock St. Bride's and won by 4 points. Next up  was a semi-final meeting with Burren Rangers from Carlow and once again the girls raised their game to win by 6 points. That set up  a Sunday final  against Waterford's Cappoquin and by this time the girls were on top of their game and brought home the Div. 5 Shield after a 1-02 to 0-00 win.

The girls hadn't much time to rest on their laurels with  a county final against Carndonagh on Monday night. The girls were hoping to add to the League title won earlier in the year and complete a League & Championship double. The Féile experience was of great benefit to the girls and again they worked well all over the pitch with the defence proving in their last few games that any scores by the opposition were going to be earned. Once again they held their opponents scoreless, winning by 4-04 to 0-00 to complete their double and bring home a 2nd straight U14 A County Championship title to O'Donnell Park.

These girls have worked very hard under the guidance of Joe Kealy, Yvonne Phillips, Mary Carr and Adrienne Randles with 6 of the squad still under 12 which bodes well for this team over the next couple of years. if anyone is interested in taking up Camogie, the U12's and U14's train on Tuesday's between 5:30pm and 6:30pm in O'Donnell Park.
