Karl Lacey will ask Donegal manager Rory Gallagher to grant him an extended winter break.

The 2012 Footballer of the Year is now 31 and reckons he can do without the hardship of playing during the early stages of next season:

"I don't know what his plans are - if he wants me back in November, December, January time for training. I don't think my body will sustain that for the whole season," the Four Masters ace told The Irish Independent.

"So if we can come up with something maybe, sit down with himself, the coaches and the medical team and see what the best structure is to put in place for me. I want to be peaking around May, June or July time rather than during the National League.

"It's trying to take down the game-time a wee bit and the training load and the match-load or whatever. At my age now and with the amount of miles I have in my legs, taking that down a wee bit is probably the best way to go for me."
