Hurlers gear up for relegation battle

March 20, 2015

Donegal entertain Kildare in Division 2B of the Allianz Hurling League on Sunday, but their manager Ray Durack is already looking ahead to the relegation playoff against either Mayo or Armagh.

With no wins from their four games to date, the Tir Chonaill men are under pressure to retain their status and Durack told the Donegal Democrat: "We have two cracks at survival in the division. The losers of the relegation playoff would face the Division 3A winners to determine who plays in Division 2B next season."

Having already qualified for the Division 2B final, there is a possibility that table-toppers will field a weakened team at O'Donnell Park.

"Kildare have already book their place in the final so they might not be as strong as if they needed the points," Durack continued.

"But realistically we are looking at a playoff and the good news on that front is it looks as if we are going to be at full strength for the first time for the playoffs."
