The "wee bit of luck" deserted Donegal in the All-Ireland SFC final against Kerry according to Ryan McHugh.

In response to Bernard Brogan's claim that Donegal caught Dublin on the hop in the semi-final, the Young Footballer of the Year - who hit two goals against the Dubs - said to The Irish Daily Star: "It's just a natural thing to say when you don't win.

"Bernard said they mightn't have left everything on the pitch, but the same thing happened to us in the All-Ireland final.

"You need the wee rub of the green, the wee bit of luck.

"We probably got it against Dublin, and Kerry probably got it against us."

The Kilcar youngster - who faces a hectic schedule in the coming months with the Donegal senior, U21 and IT Sligo Sigerson Cup teams - is in favour of the GAA's proposals to condense the annual fixture list.

"It's a long season, especially for a young lad. I'm in the thick of it at the minute. I played in a county U21 club final on the 20th of December. I think I got about two weeks off and then back training again.

"There is so much football to be played and there would be a few tweaks they could make but it's not easy. I can understand their headaches."
