Donegal's Rory Kavanagh has become the latest high-profile GAA star to announce his inter-county retirement.

The 32-year-old St. Eunan's clubman made 132 senior appearances for Donegal in a 14-year career, starring at midfield in the county's 2012 All-Ireland final victory over Mayo. Kavanagh, who confirmed that he was stepping aside to the Donegal Democrat, is the first player to retire from that all-conquering squad.

During a career in which he scored 1-41, the Letterkenny man won three Ulster SFC medals (2011, 2012 and 2014), one Allianz League Division 1 medal (2007), one Allianz League Division 2 medal (2011), one McKenna Cup medal (2009) and an All-Ireland (2012). His last appearance in the green and gold came in last September's All-Ireland final defeat to Kerry.

He is also the holder of six Donegal SFC medals, winning his more recent in November when St. Eunan's defeated Glenswilly.

His decision to retire doesn't come as a surprise after new Donegal manager Rory Gallagher had cast doubt over the inter-county futures of both he and the UK-based Anthony Thompson earlier this month.
