The role of social media in the GAA is becoming a real bone of contention

A Donegal club player who was handed a 24-week suspension for comments made on twitter is believed to have the ban halved.

The Donegal Democrat reports that Sean MacCumhaills' player David White who was banned for posting comments he made in connection with the Donegal SFC clash between Ardara and Naomh Conaill which ended in a draw and went to a replay.

Donegal officials are believed to have contacted White to take the comments down and when he allegedly refused, the 24-week suspension was handed down.

However, White has appealed the decision and reports circulating throughout the county is that the ban was reduced to 12 weeks.

If White is not happy with that he can appeal again, but he runs the risk of having the initial ban re-imposed.

In recent months, a few players have received bans for posting comments on social media, which has become the source of great debate.
