Donegal SFC: champions bounce back

October 06, 2014

Glenswilly full forward Gary McFadden holds possession under pressure from Cavan Gaels defender Marc Leddy at Kingspan Brefni Park.

Gary McFadden grabbed a hat-trick of goals as holders Glenswilly got their Donegal SFC campaign back on track with an emphatic 6-15 to 0-9 victory over Brian McEniff's Bundoran.

Beaten by Kilcar in the first round last week, Gary McDaid's charges were home and hosed by half-time when they led by 2-12 to 0-5. McFadden top-scored with 3-3, while Donegal captain Michael Murphy bagged 1-5.

Kilcar are facing an uphill battle to reach the knockout stages after they suffered a surprise 0-5 to 2-8 defeat to St. Michael's in the same group. Colm McFadden (penalty) and Daniel McLaughlin scored the goals for the Dunfanaghy-based club. Kilcar's inferior scoring difference means they may not progress, even if they beat Bundoran in the last round.

In Group 1, St. Eunan's made it two wins from two when they cruised to a 1-21 to 1-5 victory over Naomh Muire, while Glenties look set to join them in the quarter-finals following a 0-10 to 0-7 win over Malin.

Ardara and Four Masters, who drew in the first round, are poised to qualify from Group 2 after wins over Glenfin and Sean MacCumhaill's respectively. Gweedore top Group 3 with three points after beating west Donegal rivals Dungloe 1-10 to 0-10.

Killybegs, meanwhile, drew for the second weekend in-a-row, this time with Termon, 1-5 to 0-8.
