Successful Gary Doyle Tournament at O'Donnell Park

The annual Gary Doyle Memorial U-10 Gaelic football Tournament hosted very successfully in O’Donnell Park on Saturday last was blessed with a first-class competition and playing conditions.

Eight Donegal clubs, fielding two teams, were joined this year by first- time entrants Glasgow Gaels, who were on a week-end visit to the North-West and were based in Letterkenny. The well-scheduled series of matches displayed high levels of football skills and teamwork and there was a positive buzz all round the O’Donnell Park as players, coaches, spectators and a big turn-out of club volunteers contributed to a fitting memorial tournament in honour of Gary Doyle.

Denis and Patty Doyle were in attendance and conducted the presentations at the conclusion of the event. Denis shared his memories of Gary with the young players while Karl Doherty, a life-long friend and playing colleague with Gary on teams; also added his words of tribute. Club chairman, Cathal Greene was presented with sponsorship for the event by the Doyle family to whom he expressed thanks.

Following the Group Stages; the A Cup Final was won on the narrowest margin by Ardara who overcame St. Eunan’s. Four Masters overcame Sean MacCumhaills in both the B Cup final and the A Shield final; while in the B shield Final, Gaoth Dobhair overcame Ardara. In addition to clubs already mentioned, Termon, Letterkenny Gaels, Glasgow Gaels and Buncrana also fielded teams in the Tournament.

Minor Board chairman, Pauric Daly summed up the day as; sociable, sporting, skilful-play and a very successful event from every point of view which resulted in a fitting tribute to Gary Doyle. Thanking one and all who contributed to the smooth-running of the event; on and off the fields of play and in the clubhouse catering; he thanked the lead-organiser, Pauric Ryan for the excellent level of detail he and St. Eunan’s club volunteers contributed to a memorable day in the O’Donnell Park in memory of Gary Doyle.
