Senior Men
The boys put in a fantastic performance to beat Killybegs by 1:14 to 1:09 at The Cross in the league on Saturday. Red Hugh's started the game strong with very little between the teams after 15 mins but Killybegs had a purple patch just before halftime scoring a goal and a number of points leaving Red Hugh's trailing 1:07 to 0:06 at halftime. The boys came out like a completely different team in the second half putting in there most complete team performance of the year. A brilliantly worked team move which Colm Melaugh finished in the back of the net was key in Red Hugh's taking control of the game. The back line was immense in the second half only conceding two points with outstanding performances from Eugene Browne and Shane McGlinchey constantly winning their individual battles. Ryan Kelly Gerard Melaugh Peader McGlinchey and Pauric McMenamin were the heartbeat of the team turning the ball over and combining while breaking forward with some brilliant passing moves. Damien Browne was immaculate from dead balls with Calvin Bradley and Colm Melaugh both being clinical with their chances. Every player stood up to be counted with a Red Hugh's player winning every 50/50 ball in the second half this puts the boys back in touch with the teams at the top of the league and hopefully they can now carry their momentum forward.

U10's

Red Hugh's under 10s boys and girls travelled early to Ardara to play in the Joe Larry memorial tournament. They were in a group of death with the 3 eventual winners of the cup, shield and plate coming from this group.

First up was Ardara for both teams with Red Hugh's Ogs team losing out to a well organised Ardara team and then our Red Hugh's Gaels team had a great battle with Ardara coming away with a one-point win. The had a quick turnaround to play Carndonagh and both teams lost to eventual cup winners. Carndonagh having a rest favoured them and Red Hugh's pushed them all the way. With all teams finishing on equal points it meant Red Hugh's finished 3rd place on points difference.

Next up was Naomh Brid in the quarter final who only had one team and Red Hugh's got through it despite Naomh Brid putting up a big fight. With both Red Hugh's team through to the semi-finals they faced Naomh Ultan and Glenfin. The first team lost out to Naomh Ultan despite having equal opportunities N. Ultan were more clinical in taking their scores. This meant Red Hugh's could amalgamate there two squads which was what was needed to help tiring legs. Glenfin was the opposition and it was a close game with Glenfin two points up with two minutes to play. The Red Hugh's never say die attitude was here to see. They fought back to get the equaliser and get to extra time. Extra time is played with "golden point" rule with first team to score is the winner. Conor Gallagher win the throw in and stormed through the middle to be dragged down. He steadied himself and kicked the point to get Red Hugh's to the final to face Naomh Columba.

The boys and girls went out with all guns blazing with Eva Gallen O'Dwyer the launchpad of our attacks all day with her cool head in nets and always finding her players with the kickouts. However, it was her quick reactions and bravery that saved two certain goals in the final. The full panel played in the final and all played their part in taking the trophy home.

Overall it was a collective team performance with unreal man of the match performances from captain Conor Gallagher, Mark Wilkinson, Ryley Stewart and Adam Doherty and Caoimhe McMenamin. Joseph Mc Menamin, Eoin Scanlon, Aleisha Neeson Cian Doherty, Daniel Callaghan and Conan Mc Hugh led Red Hugh's other team and were the boost the U10s needed. Players win matches but squads wins tournaments. Being some player 1st their first big tournament, they have learnt a lot. Everyone from 1 to 21 played their part to bring a trophy home. We can look forward to our next tournament in Truagh Gaels in Monaghan in a month's time.
