U12 boys

Another brilliant win last Wednesday for the lads away to Gweedore, who won by a single point.

Played in very tough conditions, with a gale force wind blowing down the pitch, the Fanad boys showed great experience and skill to go in at half time leading by 1-3 to 0-1, after playing against the wind.

Gweedore came out in the second half all guns blazing and hit 2 quick goals, but Fanad kept their cool and managed to work some great points to get the win.

Next game for the boys is a home match against Cloughaneely in Portsalon on Wednesday 16th May.

U12 girls

Our U12 girls suffered defeat to Gweedore at home on Thursday evening with a tight score of 11-5 to 12-4.

On the night Gweedore were just too strong but the Gaels girls didn't give up and got some great scores themselves.

Well done girls! Out next game is home to St. Michael's next week.

Underage training

We had a great evening of training last Friday with the U8s, U10s and U12s. Large numbers of boys and girls at all age groups.

Fantastic to see so many children from the community enjoying the training and coaching on our fantastic new pitch.

Training as usual next Friday at the same times.

U8s: 6-7pm with coaches Tommy Kerr and Aidan Mc Ateer.

U10s: 5.45-6.45pm with coaches Martin Mc Ateer and Paul Dougie Coyle.

U12s: 5.45-6.45 with coaches Paddy Heraghty and Aidan Heraghty.

All new players welcome. Come along, give it a try, and make some new friends!

Four from four for our ladies

Gaeil Fhánada 5-09

Gaoth Dobhair 1-05

Gaeil Fhánada recorded their fourth victory in the league with a good win over Gaoth Dobhair at Páirc Uí Shiadhail this morning.

The visitors were the first to score on the day, scoring a good point from play in the fourth minute. Lauren Carr replied instantly with the next Fanad attack to level the scores. It was the Gaoth Dobhair teams' second trip to Fanad this year, and they brought much greater intensity to the tackle than in the previous encounter in Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta. The Gaels owned much of the possession over the next ten minutes but were pressured into shooting from difficult positions. That said, Lauren moved the Gaels ahead in the tenth minute with her second point! The first move of significance came in the 14th minute, when Eibhlín Shiels buried to the net. Within two minutes, the Gaels added a second goal, this time through Lauren Carr which gave the Fanad girls a seven point lead. Gaoth Dobhair struck a three pointer of their own only a few minutes later after a long ball into the square was pounced on and finished to the net! Gaeil Fhánada and Gaoth Dobhair then traded points, Michelle Mc Devitt on target from the home side. Her sister Aisling got her name on the scoresheet moments later, hitting a powerful drive into the net. Fanad pulled away from their opponents in the closing moments of the half, Eibhlín Shiels on target, with two further points from Michelle Mc Devitt before Maria Doherty finished of the half by scoring the Gaels' fourth goal. Gaeil Fhánada 4:6 Gaoth Dobhair 1:3.

The second half was a lot quieter in terms of scores. Orlaigh Carr was introduced at half time and saw plenty of action as the half progressed. The first score came from a Lauren Carr free. Aisling Mc Devitt then improvised brilliantly to swing over a point. Mairead Coll then dropped a long ball into the danger area, which somehow managed to find its way into the net to give the Gaels goal number 5. Hannah Shiels finished the scoring as she slotted over a nice point upon returning to the fray after a ten minute period on the sideline for receiving a yellow card. Gaoth Dobhair struck two points in the second half, but the game finished out with Gaeil Fhánada as convincing victors.

Gaoth Dobhair worked hard in defence and caused problems with their strong running from deep. For Fanad, all three Mc Devitt sisters played well with Eibhlín Shiels and Maria Doherty also influential inside.

Well done to John and the team.
