Being honest

(Oldest Posts First)

So its 10 days or so after the Omagh nightmare, and I've had time to digest the defeat, people talk about so called tactics like sweepers or getting men behind the ball but the bottom line is the players have to mark their own man, win your battle with your marker cause thats what it all boils down to win the mini battles all over the park and that will win the game. Forget about Brennan didn't say this or that to the players or questioning is the captain a leader - on the field everyone has to step up to the mark when they cross the white line they have to take the bull by the horns do they have the belly for the battle? I guess we find out against Monaghan.

Isn't that so simple to do, as if.:) You can do these things if your players are quick enough in mind and are FIT. The break couldn't have come at a better time for Derry. But for them to make use of it they need the leaders in the team to lead, and guess what, yes you guessed it we don't have many made of that stuff. Never mind how morale has hit rock bottom. Monaghan are bouyed by there last victory, but they are no world beaters, and in that we should realisticly have a chance to turn the corner. After I watched the Mc Kenna cup final it was easy to see Derry were in serious trouble, and they have deteriorated since then in my opinion due to the lack of character in the squad. Like any decent Derry man I will hope for a win in my head, but my heart is heavy.

Last year we played as a team in every game bar the Ulster final. This year we have not. If the team spirit can be ressurected we may play some football. But if we play as individuals each looking to himself then we will win no games.

monaghan will be a tough mountain to climb they put in a good show against kildare recently you's will need to put in a good effort and all the lads working together.the break is probably what you's need and if p bradley can bring the scoring boots you may well take the 2 points and work on from that..

I'll be honest - we need to beat Monaghan on Saturday night or we are in real trouble.

Time to do our talking on the pitch!

Being honest, no matter how good we are against Monaghan I fear we dont have the full back line to win anything this season. Hope I'm wrong!

Being honest we dont have the players.
We have a lot of good club players playing at a similar level but we have very few true county players.

being honest, derry ledd is right our full back line has more holes in it than danny devlins net. i haven't seen bellaghy's eugene scullion play yet after he injured himself at the start of the mckenna cup weather if he could make a difference yet or not john mccamley is said to be the answer to the defensive cover we need and i also see dungiven's u21 full back is being tipped to come in but it means relying on players who to be honest are unproved at the top level

All this honesty is like confession, It is only February, Brennan does not care about the league and to be honest not really people can honestly say they care if they win it. No need to be worrying as of yet, Early days and a lot of new players still getting tried and tested about in positions, The back line can be worked at, Its been 3 weeks since our last game and hopefully within those 3 weeks we may have had some recoveries instead of injuries, This is not the full strength team and to be honest its to early to panic, Wait a few more games and see how things go.
