i think he started against laois in the league and we all know how that game finished and i think james and our other bright young star declan mullan got dragged off early during the first half. I can only think that the only reason why james is not featuring more has got to be maybe he is not showing up well at training and you could maybe put it down to him studying an intense course at queens with exam pressure, as he's got the natural ability but yet to show it at senior intercounty level. I even couldn't say what his best position is, i think he could be a future midfielder in the mould of big enda brolly_4_pres (Derry) - Posts: 356 - 31/05/2011 19:58:39 944871 Link 0 0 |

James Kielt really only has a big booming left boot on him when you think about it. As a big lad he hasnt great pace or any but give him a year or 2 and he might gain the neccessary strength to win 50-50 balls and have the confidence to shrug off a challenge. I do feel he will play an integral part of the derry team in the future but unfortunately to date he hasnt really done it at senior level apart from some outlandish free kicks. But theres definitely a forward spot up for grabs against armagh as c o'boyle needs to try and have a bigger impact than had against fermanagh. Im thinking if marty donaghy is fit he might come in, or possible barry. It will be interesting to see what tricks JB has up his sleeve because you cant mark what you cant see! south_derry (Derry) - Posts: 47 - 01/06/2011 16:20:47 945537 Link 0 0 |
He's a strong gaelic footballer, not a boxer! topcat1 (Derry) - Posts: 25 - 01/06/2011 17:18:13 945618 Link 0 0 |
James should be on the side, people talk about hes not strong enough but to be honest there are some players there worse than James, Infact I would say James would be one of the strongest younger players Orlaith (Derry) - Posts: 4282 - 01/06/2011 18:01:52 945675 Link 0 0 |
Folks playing football isn't a strongman contest but to play intercounty football especially in the championship you need to have a bit of fight inside as well as ability. Now James lacks natural aggression that's needed if he were to play half forward say as you need to be able to compete to win primary ball - he doesn't strike me as a guy who's going put his shoulder to the wheel when the going gets tough. But he is young and will improve in this regard when he truly believes he belongs in the White hot atmosphere of championship football. south_derry (Derry) - Posts: 47 - 01/06/2011 20:10:10 945805 Link 0 0 |

James Kielt is far too good a player not to make a significant contribution in the near future - Brennan has plans for him, I'm hoping. With Paddy Bradley unfortunately missing this year, Derry could do with a reliable left-footed free taker, for one thing (I know Skinner can hit some exceptional ones but he's not really a specialist at bread and butter frees). If it has been study commitments (finals, perhaps) that have kept James on the sidelines so much, then he should be finished up around now and ready to show the rest of the country the talent that Derry people know he possesses. doiregael2 (Derry) - Posts: 334 - 07/06/2011 20:55:40 950038 Link 0 0 |
Certainly made some of the above posters look silly on sunday past. He is only one of the great young talent available to JB. derryman (Derry) - Posts: 3246 - 21/06/2011 13:08:10 961817 Link 0 0 |
