All-Ireland Senior Football Championship 2023 - 2 Like(s)

Replying To legendzxix:  "The solution there was a flexible schedule for two qualifying from a group. The two R1 winners should play in R2. Unless in the event of draws, it will mean two teams on 1 win each seeking qualification in R3. R1: Dublin beat Roscommon. Kildare beat Sligo. R2: Dublin beat Kildare. Roscommon beat Sligo R3: Roscommon v Kildare for second place. Dublin v Sligo is a dead rubber but as both final round games throw-in at the same time, all media can focus on the Roscommon v Kildare shootout. High risk of Sligo and Clare being eliminated after Round 2, despite 3 qualifying from a group: R1: Dublin beat Roscommon. Kildare beat Sligo. R2: Dublin beat Kildare. Roscommon beat Sligo Dublin 4 points. Dublin group winners. Kildare 2 points Roscommon 2 points Sligo 0 points. Sligo eliminated. R3: Roscommon v Kildare is for home advantage. Enough of an incentive? R1: Derry/Armagh beat Monaghan. Donegal beat Clare. R2: Derry/Armagh beat Donegal. Monaghan beat Clare Derry/Armagh 4 points. Derry/Armagh group winners. Donegal 2 points Monaghan 2 points Clare 0 points. Clare eliminated. R3: Monaghan v Donegal is for home advantage. Enough of an incentive? The flaw in the current structure: A low ranked league county as provincial runners-up and Seed 2 increases the risk of dead rubbers in R3. Let's take a look at Westmeath's group where Westmeath are a low ranked league team and Seed 4: R1: Galway beat Tyrone. Derry/Armagh beat Westmeath. R2: Galway beat Westmeath. Derry/Armagh beat Tyrone Galway 4 points. Derry/Armagh 4 points Tyrone 0 points Westmeath 0 points. R3: Galway v Derry/Armagh is a playoff to win the group and qualify for the quarter-finals. Tyrone v Westmeath is an elimination playoff. Summary: Dead rubbers are more likely avoided when low ranked league provincial runners-up are Seed 4. Is Sligo's soft route to a Connacht final sufficient to be seeded above Mayo, Roscommon and Tyrone?"
Would it be easier for your GAA life if Sligo didn't exist ? We play the games we are asked to play. Sligo team are progressing nicely and won't be playing their games on a keyboard. Let's hope Galway put in a decent performance on Sunday and keep it competitive

Replying To MachaireConnacht:  "Obviously people are fuming now but it would probably be best to reserve judgement on Moran until after the TC or at least after the next game and see how the response is. NY/Sligo now will receive a beating in the Connacht final, then they will receive at least two, if not three, hammerings in the AI group stage. The Connacht runners up could potentially be in a group with Kerry, Mayo and Kildare. Is that really a better position to be in?"
that Sligo team might just suprise you Machaire. On firm ground, they will get no hammerings. They are well organised and have serious finishers all over the pitch.

I have said it before that McEntee isn't up to the job. Can't understand him half the time when he is interviewed. He is always on about this group of lads not able to compete. I would love to know from someone on the inside if he offers anything. No emotion ever on the sideline either. I believe in this group of players and reckon now is the time to bring someone else in. Nothing to be lost by giving it to Paul Henry. We were an embarassment yesterday and I don't blame the players one bit for it.

Good man. Sligo won't be promoted either. Cavan and Tipp done and dusted for promotion. We know our place and the results tell us we are to remain in div 4.

Sligo should be pushing for home venue for Connacht final. Markievicz well able to hold crowd expected. It is their turn to have "home" advantage. Current crowd for Galway Sligo fixture is well down on the past. Would be a cracking atmosphere too. 12k to 15k in Castlebar won't look nearly full and not a great look for a Connacht final. The Hyde would be better

Replying To MachaireConnacht:  "I wasn't pointing a finger at Galway but in general there is a more of a risk of them being used now. We just don't know how big of an issue it is. Paul Kimmage reckons it's bigger in team sports than we think but all the attention goes to athletics and cycling."
To be fair Galway seem to just have a current crop of big mobile units. They are the real deal and I am happy to have them as favourites this year for Sam. I just worry that the pressure nowadays with our amateur sport will cause some serious health issues in the future for our young players. i'm convinced it is a problem in our sport. The "top teams" in both codes are doing the same S&C as the lower teams and looking at the mismatches on the field, it comes down to body size. How can one player burst through his jersey doing the same S&C as his marker ? If you look at the U20's it looks way more like a level playing field. Come senior something very wierd unfolds with some teams

You boys going to whip us this weekend ? Interesting to see if you change tactics and go at Sligo early. If it's Roscommon keep ball then I'd rather not watch. Makes for a boring game. Roscommon have ability to take us by 10 points plus but if they go the Dublin game plan it could end up Like Sligo Kildare game and then squeaky bum time for the Rossies. Either way hope it's a competitive game. Up the west

Well with current attendances well down and only 15k max heading to Castlebar... Why not push for home venue as it is Sligo's turn against Galway. I'm sure Galway fans would enjoy a cracking atmosphere in Markievicz park as oppossed to half full Mchale park

Reckon Gaa are losing revenue on this one. Castlebar 15k max..... Sligo 18k (sell out) I reckon more Sligo people will go to game if it was in Markievicz
