Galway V Sligo - Salthill June 3Rd - 1 Like(s)
I think most sane Sligo supporters predicted this coming, we didn't need a crystal ball for this one such is the gulf between the weaker counties and the so called super 8 and this is now a huge problem that needs addressing from the Gaa. Whatever about the result on Sunday it is so disheartening to be thinking about next year on the first Monday of June. And what makes it even more disheartening are the questions that need answering, where do we go from here? There will most likely be another few retirees at the end of this season with Ross, Charlie and Adrian Marren having lots of miles on the clock and it is very hard to see replacements for these lads as they were as good as you would find in the country. As Sligo Cody posted we need to give a local manager a shot and leave him in place for a few of years and try to build something and if we go down to division 4 so be it, we can't go any further and then the only way is up. We seem hell bent on trying to copy structures of management and systems of play from every county around us instead of actually using some brain power and developing a structure that will benefit us in years to come. No outside manager cares about what's coming through 3 or 4 years down the line, all he cares about is his next result. In the last 40 years, apart from John O'Mahony no outside manager has won an All Ireland for another county so why do we keep persisting with this, even our last piece of silverware came via one of our own. It is high time the County Board address this before we loose the game all together.
