Granted graham reilly can be great at times but struggles against better sides! I think Bobby O'Brien deserves a game or 2 at 11.we have seen reilly there for years we know what he gives us! Would like to see

10.O'Sullivan
11.Bobby
12.Biggy
13.McMahon
14.Sheridan
15.Newman

With obviously plenty of players pushing hard to get in still open to massive changes to forward line just throwing out possibilitys"
Did you not read the forum rules? Nobody is allowed to even question Biggy. He's our best player and was involved in 40% of the scores last year.

I actually feel it is a slap in the face for club goalkeepers throughout the county, really struggling to see any logic to have Sheridan in goals, maybe a sub FF but GK just don't get it!!!

free's is one thing,I think he lost confidence, but still think he is a quality player.I would be interested in seeing that forward line at some stage to see how it does.

agree with your sentiments, he is even unreliable at that also, he get's the difficult ones but misses the handy ones

Just to let everyone know I was joking but there are one or two posters who think like that. He goes missing far too often for my liking. I also agree that Mickey Newman hasn't been great the last two years but there's a new manager now and maybe he might be a bit better. Was hoping to see Brian Sheridan getting a chance because I think he could be better than Newman but he must have got injured.

purely down to confidence You have less to lose with the harder ones.

Did he not give you a shout Royal? I'm surprised about that - he called me! Mind you, I did tell him that I couldn't help him, because Browncows is the only one around here who knows about football. Maybe that's why he didn't give you a call!

Ahh that must be it, very disappointing I must say and poor form from Andy to not give me a call. Bring back micko. :)

I'll explain, lot of attention on Meath, probably more than anytime since bamty, people (media/pundits ) etc keeping very close eye on things, Andy knew the players (old and new) would be hassled for quotes or whatever. All eyes were on Meath more so than any other county in these preliminary comps. So what does he do? He makes it all about Joe, a guy who has taken more flak than any player in recent times, that's all that been reports on, to a lesser extent is biggy been capt, again been experienced it doesn't matter, leaving the rest of the players to totally go under radar and get on with things as Andy (its his job) Joe and graham take all the questions. Anyone thinking its disrespectful to club gk is not seeing the big picture, our 3 keepers are Birmingham, hannigan and O'Rourke, no others need apply, so Joe been there just deflects attention. In other words, a master stroke!!

But havent they all gone missing over last number of years? I mean even Donal was brought on a merry-go-round by the Monaghan lad 3 times in 3 different matches.
I think this was all down to poor instructions and management from sideline. All players have a clean slate now so lets see what they do under proper structures and orders.

Rubbish a master stroke would be to beat Dublin in Leinster or a successful year! No point in calling anything a master stroke after beaten 2 rubbish teams in the obyrne cup! If that's a masterstroke I give up!

Would you stop of course a captain can be dropped !! On current form he shouldn't be !! Biggy is very hot and cold albeit a fine footballer on his day but no where near the level of geraghty or Giles in there pomp!!

How did you come to the conclusion I was questioning Andy? Of course I'm not. Why does a captain have to play every game, I can think of plenty of examples in sport where the captain is a not a regular starter. But it is good to see you sticking up for your clubman, not too many other posters rate him as highly as you do. He has the potential to be one of our key players but for some reason hasn't done it yet. Hopefully Andy gets the best out of him and this is a great year for him.

Looking at the team named for tomorrow with the exception of Joe all the other featured started against either Wicklow or DIT. The majority against Wicklow but it would be unfair to expect players to play Wednesday and again on Saturday (though McQuillan, Power & Lenihan are down to play). I was expecting 9 or 10 new / fresh player to start tomorrow so that we could fully see the hand available to Andy. I know its a game we need to win so that we get more competitive games (this could be why Andy has gone with the tried and tested) and Laois appear to be of a similar standard to ourselves judging their performances against Wicklow & DIT.
While Wednesday nights team was probably the least experienced they were probably the better team and also got the a harder test against DIT. So it proves there is some good talented players available to Andy and when the best of both teams are mixed with a few under 21s and collage tied players Meath supporters can be confidant of a good competitive team this year.
I think we have the makings of a solid enough defense, good attacking forwards, but midfield still looks light, but hopefully the likes of Power, Flanagan, Menton or O'Brien can develop into the type of midfielders needed.
