I'm very excited about the new management team but I'm not overly excited about that team to be honest. At least 5/6 lads of that panel are not up to intercounty standard.

Not a great balance to it either. Lets hope its purely about getting lads out on trial to see if they have what the management are looking for as opposed to anything more. Although, given that they've all been together training 6 times a week since October, I imagine they've a good idea of who they want to keep on.

It was taken directly from the Meath GAA twitter. They listed the 22 players.

Which 5 or 6 are you referring to?

What's the point in listing 15 lads and changing the whole side at HT? I think he's dead right to keep the subs to a sensible amount & change the team totally for the next game rather than making a raft of changes in the middle of a game.

Clearly it is to put is to lads on trial! Did people expect us to have our championship team out on Sunday? I am sure that lot of players will get a go over the course of the 3 games.Players would have worked very hard over the last few months, everyone deserves at least a run out over the course of the next 3 games. What is point of having them in if they don't at least get an OBC game?

Is it strange for Biggy to playing for us this early in the year when he has an all Ireland club match in February?

I don't think it's a bad team, obviously there will be a good few changes come the first round of the league. No harm trying lads at this time of the year.

I think the team has a nice blend of experienced players (~9) and players on trial/retrial (~6). The nucleus of the probable starting 15 come league & championship is there. Develop a team structure and system of play and slot trial/fringe players into it and see how they perform/fit in. Play to win matches but also to learn as your doing so. The next match may see a slightly more experimental team.

Think it's a fairly strong team to be fair.

Need to win each game and start building momentum.

Nice to see the team being announced early. Let's hope this is done on an ongoing basis.

I agree with a certain amount of changes but don't let us have changes for change sake. Andy needs to be moving towards the optimum for the very first game in the league as promotion must be a key objective this year. For example I would only change one of the midfielders if the alternative is a very serious option.

All Ireland match in late January I think. Yes you would have expected that. Good luck to all the lads on Sunday

Cant believe he has named a team for the first time for a completely irrelevant competition and people are already giving out.

Absolutely no qualms with Andy Mac's team selection and be interested to see how some of them do, but does anyone know if Wallace, Newman and Tormey are likely to still be on the panel this season?

One person had a slight moan about it - that's it.

There seems to be a big wish among some posters to portray a scenario that fickle supporters were clamouring for Andy McEntee to get the job, and are now already knocking him at every opportunity. However that is just not true, no matter how many times people might like to say it. The vast majority of supporters understand that there will be ups and downs, and that no-one could change around Meath's fortunes overnight.

Say they would be doing well.

I think Wallace played in one of the challenge matches? I think Andy Mac can get the best out of Mickey too, you don't become a bad player overnight.

No questioning Brian Sheridan's talent, would question his conditioning perhaps but if he could get that on point he could be a key player this year

Tbh I wouldn't like to name lads.

I agree with out posters in that its good to have a mix of lads being tried out along with the nucleus of an experienced team.
Its not fair to put in debutants into a weak and inexperienced team, they are better off playing with more established players so that they can shine in the best conditions - thats really how you find out if a lad is good enough or not. For eg, only fair on the young Castletown lad at corner forward that the likes of Cillian O Sullivan is kicking ball into him rather than another lad who is also only on trial. The best delivery we have gives him his best chance of getting on some ball and then we can see how good he is.
